WELD UPDATES

As a reminder, it is your responsibility to update your weld papers with the state. This office will no longer send in updates on your behalf. If you let your papers expire, the cost to retest through our local union is $150. Please call the hall if you have any questions or need a blank form. Our weld shop was recently recertified, and as a courtesy to our members, we allow and encourage you to come up to the hall and practice. We are offering both stick and wire.

LAYOFF LIST

We encourage everyone to get their name on the layoff list when they are out of work. Although this is not mandatory, and you have the right to solicit your own work, this office has no way of knowing if you are in need of work if you don’t get on the list. We do dispatch work according to layoff date; however, there are times that a contractor requests a certain qualification that not everyone on the list has. For example, there are no certified welders in the first 30 people on the current layoff list. If a contractor must have a certified welder, those first 30 will be passed over to find the person with the qualification. So even though you may be further down on the list, you still may be the right person for that particular job. On that note, we’d like to remind you that the weld shop is open Monday-Friday for anyone who wants to come and practice their welding.

RETIREES’ LUNCH

The retirees’ lunch will be held on Wednesday, July 8 at noon. The luncheon will be held at Southside Grinderz in the Southgate Shopping Center (3201 Cleveland Avenue SW). As always, widows and friends are also welcome.

ANNUITY PLANS

Please be advised that the annuity plans of Locals 550, 17 (Cleveland) and 549 (Wheeling) will be merging. Cleveland will be adopting our plan, so there will be no changes to the way our annuity is run. This does not affect our Pension or Health & Welfare plans.
