Additionally, the Homes Association will be having a “Santa Claus is coming to town” event. Even better, he’s coming to Iron Horse Estates on Sunday afternoon, December 7th ! This event will be for young and old, from little kids to grandparents.

It will be a great opportunity to take your own family/kid pictures with Santa for Christmas cards. Participating families will be asked to bring cookies to share and hot chocolate will be provided. More information to follow….

Cheryl Metz would much appreciate hearing from anyone who could help out. Contact Cheryl at , call her at 681-0738, or join the Facebook group. Request to join at: www.facebook.com/groups/ironhorseestatesleawood.

Annual Business Meeting

The Annual Iron Horse Estates Homes Association Business Meeting will be held at the Iron Horse Golf Clubhouse on Sunday, November 9, 2014, beginning at 7:00 PM. We encourage each home to be represented at the meeting to get the latest update on our Homes Association and to make plans for 2015. The meeting will discuss finances including annual dues, the 2015 budget, other neighborhood issues, and the election of Board members for the coming year.

Two Board members, Bob Meling and John Hermes, will retire from the Board this year and new volunteers are needed. We thank Bob and John for their years of service and support to our neighborhood!

Please contact any current Board member if you are interested in being part of this important neighborhood organization! Unless other candidates come forward, we propose the following Board members for 2015:

Karen Snyder 681-3841

Jim Rochel 402-9592

Gayle Newman 972-8025

Mike Browne 681-6578

Janet Koziol 220-1004

Cheryl Metz 681-0738

Kelsie Cygan 544-1729

Mary King 897-1336

Thank You Neighbors!

A big “Thank You!” goes to Tom and Kelsey Cygan for the use of their movie equipment for the family movie night! Many neighbors showed up to watch “Journey to the Center of the Earth” with free admission and free popcorn and candy. Moving the date from Friday to Saturday night due to the weather made for a beautiful evening for all.

October Progressive Dinner Party

The Progressive Dinner Party held on October 4th was fun for all who attended. There was lots of great food from Jose Peppers. As often happens during such neighborhood events, many neighbors met each other for the first time.

Thanks again to the neighbors who hosted the event, the Marquardt’s, the Metz’s, and the Kornfeind’s! The event will probably be repeated next year with 3 new volunteer hosts.

Tree Trimming, Removal, etc.

Fall is a great time of year for pruning and trimming trees and shrubs, and for replacing dead or dying vegetation. If there are dead or dying trees on your property, this is a good time to have them removed or replaced. If there are trees near a sidewalk, please make sure that people walking on the sidewalk have clear passage under the tree branches.

Additionally, please make sure drivers of cars passing your home have clear and full visibility of the street ahead. Pruning and trimming can not only improve visibility and ease of passage, they promote healthy plants and new growth to your landscaping.

Pool Update

This year has been a good one at the pool overall with the continued use of a very good maintenance company and minimal mischief or vandalism. The pool continues to age, however, and will continue to need more repairs. One item needing attention in the not-too-distant future will be tile repair and or replacement.

Trash and Yard Waste Collection

Friday is the normal day for trash, recycling, and yard waste collection for Iron Horse Estates. The dates when trash will NOT be collected on Friday due to a Deffenbaugh-observed holiday are as follows:

·  Saturday, November 29, 2014

·  Saturday, December 27, 2014

For the months of October and November, homeowners can place up to 10 compostable bags or bundles of yard waste out per week per home. You may contact Deffenbaugh Industries at: www.deffenbaughinc.com or call them at (913) 631-3300 with questions or for up-to-date information.
