Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for afull-time,fixed term position as a Performance Computational Scientist with the Irish Centre for High End Computing (ICHEC) at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The successful candidate can choose to be based in ICHEC’s offices in either Dublin or Galway. The position is available immediately to contract end date of 31st December 2018.

Job Description:

ICHEC is the national High-Performance Computing (HPC) in Ireland and is a centre of domain, systems and software expertise that provides high performance software solutions to academia, industry and state bodies, through partnership, knowledge transfer, project delivery and service provision. ICHEC operates the national HPC service providing compute resources and software expertise for the research communities across all the main science disciplines through collaborative partnerships and programmes of education and outreach.

Working with industry partners, the job will focus on investigating new approaches, developing new software, as well as refactoring/optimizing existing software (performance engineering), with the general goal of increasing the performance and energy efficiency of software applicationson a range of emerging many-core platforms, including emerging extreme scale systems.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or 4+ years of experiencepost-masters in computational science/computer science, or a related discipline, with a track record in anR&D environment. Evidence of strong experience in C/C++, MPI, OpenMP, scripting (shell/python/ruby/others) is required. Experience in CUDA/OpenCL is desirable. The ideal candidate would have in-depth knowledge of parallel programming and performance analysis at node and cluster levels, as well as scaling and optimising applications on at least one of the following platforms: Intel Xeon Phi,GPU. Experience in scaling applications on large-scale clusters as well as development experience in a technical computing domain (e.g., oil & gas, weather, machine learning) is an advantage.

Candidates should also have excellent communication and organisational skills; be highly motivated to develop and enhancesoftware; and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.

Salary: €46,255per annumStart date: Post is open, Immediate.
