Spelling Competition

Commencing towards the 19th year Ira International School Butibori Nagpur, celebrated its Foundation Day with a great bang and following the traditional path this year too, the school conducted interschool spelling competition ‘Spelling-Bee’. This competition was held with a purpose to fuel up students with good vocabulary, accent and spelling skills in them.

Renowned personality of the Orange City Mr. Vijay Phansikar Editor of well known Newspaper ‘Hitavada’ honoured the celebration by being the chief guest. He expressed that Spelling –Bee is all about gaining strength from words and to improve the power of language. He stressed that this power is a must for one and all, further more he added that each word has its personality which one needs to understand to enhance his own personality. The school had the honour of having Mrs. Neeru Kapai Principal Modern School as a special guest for the day. Dr.Supanto Bhattacharya Prof of English, ‘Hislop College’, Nagpur and Mr. K.D. Singh Principal of ‘Stepping Stone High School’ Aurangabad were the eminent judges of the competition. Dr. Supanto Bhattacharya congratulated Ira International School for its incredible achievements in focusing on the importance of language in this E- Learning world. According to him ‘Good spellers make good learner of language’. Mr. K.D.Singh thanked the School for introducing this competition and paving the ways of students to know about the basics of language.

186 students from 26 school of the city stance their participation. The competition was held in four rounds, where first round was the elimination round, the top scorers were headed towards the second round the ‘Synonym Round’. This was followed by the ‘Ladder Round’ where a contender had to hunt out the word from the given meaning and complete the table in a ladder form. In the final round some words were given by the judges, and the contenders had to spell the word with its meaning.

Students of Ira International School performed a foot tapping dance number ‘Jai-Jai Maa’ in order to bow down before the supreme power and to lighten the tense competitive atmosphere.

Students from different schools had participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. A cut throat, neck to neck competition was held and finally the competition had its runner up Ms. Simran Biswal from Bhavans Shree Krishna Nagar and the winner Ms. Shayoni from Bhavans Civil Lines. Principal of the school Mrs.Reena Dargan’s efforts and guidance led the celebration to a grand success. She thanked the Principals of different schools who took efforts to send their students and teacher representatives who whole heartedly participated and provided a healthy competition.
