Tournament Guidelines

Tournament format: Competition will consist of an opening round of pool play followed

by a single elimination championship bracket; silver and bronze flights are

included for 3rd and 4th place qualifiers.

Equipment: Teams should provide their own warm-up balls and whistles. The officiating

team is responsible for securing the game ball following the match.

Pool Play:

All matches will be 2 games to 21 points- no cap.

1st and 2nd place teams qualify for the championship division. 3rd place teams will

advance to the silver flight; 4th place teams qualify for the bronze flight.

Championship Brackets (All Divisions): All matches will be 2 out of 3 games, first 2

games to 21 points/no cap; 3rd game to 15 points/no cap.

Tie Breaker:

Seeding for tournament bracket play will be as follows:

1.  Overall won-lost record

2.  Head to head competition (games then point spread)

3.  Total point differential for all pool matches

No team will be eliminated from a higher bracket position based on points only.

If a tie exists in comparing head-to-head game results in pool play, a one game play-off

to 15 points/no cap will be played to determine the qualifier. (For play-off matches,

1st place teams will serve as the officiating teams.)

First Service: A coin toss will be used to determine service; the team listed first on

the schedule will call the coin toss.

Warm-up: A 10 minute warm-up (2-4-4 format) will be provided prior to your first

match. This allows for 2 minutes passing (shared court) followed by 4 minutes by serving team entire court) and 4 minutes by receiving team (entire court). All remaining

warm-ups will be 6 minutes (3-3 format); 3 minutes by serving team on court followed

by 3 minutes by the receiving team.

Officiating: Teams are responsible for officiating duties throughout the tournament.

The success of the tournament schedule is dependent upon the acceptance of this responsibility. Site directors do not have enough people at the sites to make officiating crews. When a team loses a match in bracket play, that team is assigned to officiate the next match on that court; check schedules for these assignments.

Officiating (Cont.)

The officiating team must provide 2 officials, a scorekeeper, an asst.scorekeeper for the

flip-a-score, 2 lines judges, and a libero tracker. In addition, the officiating team is responsible for assigning 2 players to serve as ball shaggers between the courts during

the warm-ups. During the 8th Grade Gold Tournament, an adult official is required as the R-1 for all matches. Be on your court immediately to officiate as the previous match is completed. Have a stopwatch, etc. available to time the official court-

warm-up period; to keep on schedule, officials need to be on time & keep play moving.

During the quarterfinal rounds in bracket play, registered officials are been hired to serve as the referee. Coaches and players are still responsible for assisting as the R-2, scorekeepers, lines judges, etc. throughout the bracket play.

Libero: When the libero is used in the line-up, she must wear a uniform top that contrasts

in color.

Sportsmanship: The best in sportsmanship is the goal throughout the tournament.

Respect toward officials, players, coaches, tournament volunteers, etc. is expected.

Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.

Concessions: A concession stand will be provided at each site. A full menu to include walking tacos, hot dogs, sub sandwiches, and pizza will be available at the Simpson and Middle School Sites. Concessions at Emerson, Wilder, & High School while more limited will include a good variety of items. Proceeds offset rental expenses and are a fundraising

project for Simpson College Volleyball and the Indianola Booster Club. .

No Cooler Rule/Outside Food Rules: No coolers, electrical appliances, outside food

will be permitted inside any of the school facilities. Violation of this policy may lead to a warning, confiscation of the item by site directors, a team delay, or unsportsmanlike penalty for your team. To assure future use of the facilities for volleyball, site directors must enforce this policy. Spectators as well as players and coaches must follow all

gym, food and site rules.

Food/Drink Policies in Gymnasiums:

Water or sports drinks only (caps on bottles!) will be permitted at the team benches and scorer’s tables. Please assist in the proper disposal of water bottles, etc. following

each match.

In the Indianola Schools, cafeterias or designated concession areas will be provided. Food and drinks may not be taken into the two elementary school gymnasiums.

Spectator Seating and Chairs:

Bleacher seating is available, but limited in the Cowles Center and Indianola Middle School; some additional chairs will also be provided. With limited seating for the large

number of teams, you will need to share court chairs with fans of other teams that are

playing. Fans are encouraged to have folding chairs available as a back-up for seating in

Hopper Gymnasium and the Cowles Center.

Bleachers are available at the High School East Gym and Wilder Elementary School. Chairs and seating will be provided for fans at Emerson School.

Team Camps & Facilities Care: Team camp areas are to be set up in school hall spaces

rather than gym spaces. To facilitate spectator seating, please limit extra bags and other items brought into the gymnasiums. Camp areas should not block entrances or playing areas. Do not keep valuables in gym bags. Give them to a parent to keep, etc. Players should keep camp areas picked up. Please clean your camp area and spectator areas

before leaving; this is greatly appreciated.

Tournament Stores: A variety of volleyball items will be on sale at each site; State AAU

Tournament T-shirts and other special T-shirts will be available.

WE LOOK FORWARD TO HOSTING YOUR AAU TEAM AND FANS

THANK YOU FOR YOUR ASSISTANCE – TEAMWORK WORKS!
