PAINTING I

Lindsay Frey

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Painting is considered an advanced art class. During this course we will experiment with a range of painting mediums including acrylic, watercolor, oil and possibly others if time allows. A successful painting begins with drawing. It is important to practice and keep your drawing skills in good working order. Because this is a beginning level painting class our subject matter will primarily be based on still life, landscape, and design elements.

CLASS WORK

Studio Projects: Art studio projects will make up the majority of your grade. You will have the opportunity to try a variety of media and techniques.

Homework: Throughout the trimester you will be asked to complete reading/sketchbook/brainstorming assignments for homework. Also, any unfinished class and independent studio projects will be completed for homework.

Sketchbook/Folder: Everyone is responsible for keeping their own sketchbook. This will be used to create sketches, a place for journaling, and working out ideas. This can be used as a folder to keep handouts and rubrics. I also strongly encourage you to keep your sketchbook as an image file (a place where you store pictures/magazine clippings/etc as a reference). I also encourage you to keep an electronic image/resource file such as Pinterest, Tumbler etc.

REQUIRED CLASS MATERIALS

For this class you will need to bring a pencil (preferably not mechanical) to class every day!

Other class materials will be “lent” out to you for the trimester. This may include a drawing board, painting palette, brushes etc. Be responsible for taking care of these items and store them in the proper places.
