Project Update

Interstate 75 Reconstruction --Project 2, Allen County

·  Ohio 117/309 Safety Upgrade

·  Ohio 81 Reconstruction and Alignment

Project 2 will reconstruct the existing lanes of Interstate 75 from Fourth Street to just north of Ohio 81 in Lima. This phase also includes the reconstruction of the Fourth Street, Ohio 81 and Ohio 117/309 interchanges; a safety upgrade to Ohio 309 east of the Interstate 75 interchange; and the reconstruction and realignment of Ohio 81 from Neubrecht to Stewart Road. This phase is expected to be completed in 2015.

Project 1 of the Interstate 75 reconstruction project, which is the replacement of the Fourth Street and Reservoir Road bridges over Interstate 75 in Lima, began last year and will be completed in the spring. Both structures were opened to traffic last fall. Project 3, from the Auglaize County line to Fourth Street, will begin in 2014. This phase also includes the reconstruction of the Breese Road and Ohio 65 interchanges as well as the replacement of the Hanthorn and McClain Road bridges over Interstate 75. The overall project is scheduled to be completed in 2016.

Restrictions on I-75 Continue This Evening; Work Zone to be Extended on Ohio 117/309 Wednesday

Interstate 75

·  Beginning at approximately 7 p.m. this evening, traffic on Interstate 75 northbound between Fourth Street and Reservoir Road will be reduced to one lane to allow crews to replace construction barrels with temporary concrete barrier to delineate the work zone.

·  Traffic on Interstate 75 southbound between Fourth Street and Reservoir Road will be reduced to one lane on Thursday, April 4 to continue the pavement striping work which was completed in the northbound lanes on Saturday. This work is expected to begin at 7 p.m. Thursday and will be completed by 10 a.m. Friday morning.

·  Once the pavement striping is completed, concrete barrier will be placed on the southbound side as well.

·  Setting of the barrier will take place over several nights, generally between the hours of 7 p.m. until as late as 10 a.m. the following morning in some areas

·  Traffic delays should be expected at times through the work zone.

·  The new pavement markings and barrier will create narrowed lanes of travel and will accommodate a shift in traffic patterns in preparation for the reconstruction of the lanes.

Ohio 117/309

·  Between Leonard Avenue/Kibby Street and Saratoga Avenue, temporary concrete barrier will be placed sometime later this week to separate the lanes of travel from the work area.

·  Beginning Wednesday, April 3, the work zone on Ohio 117/309 will be expanded. The zone will extend between Leonard Avenue/Kibby Street to Belmont Avenue (Kmart). Traffic will be placed in the eastbound lanes, one lane in each direction. A two-way, left-turn lane will begin at Saratoga Avenue. Traffic will remain in this pattern until mid to late summer to allow for work at the interchange at Interstate 75 and on the north side of Ohio 117/309.

·  Traffic east of Belmont Avenue will remain two lanes in each direction at this time.

·  The ramps on the north side of the interchange at Interstate 75 and Ohio 117/309 closed March 29 for reconstruction and will remain closed until mid summer.

·  Access to Interstate 75 from Ohio 117/309, and to Ohio 117/309 from Interstate 75 is maintained in all directions by use of the ramps on the south side of the interchange. Traffic at the interchange is controlled by temporary traffic signals.

·  Access to Dean Avenue from Ohio 117/309 is now not possible. Access to Dean Avenue is currently only available from the north.

·  There are no longer two lanes turning west onto Ohio 309 from Ohio 117 (at Speedway and McDonald’s). Traffic wishing to turn left (west) must do so from the left lane. The right lane is now a through/right-turn lane. This condition will remain throughout this construction season.

·  Access to all businesses through the project area is maintained.
