The International Solar Alliance (ISA) was launched on 30th November 2015 in Paris as an inter-governmental treaty organisation by India and France with an aim, as enshrined in its Framework Agreement, to create a platform for the promotion of solar energy across its member countries and to ensure demand aggregation, cost reduction, energy security and sustainable development for future.

Article VIII, (1) of the ISA Framework Agreement reads:

“Partner Organization status may be granted by the Assembly to organizations that have potential to help the ISA to achieve its objectives, including regional inter-governmental economic integration organizations constituted by sovereign states and at least one of which is a member of ISA”
