Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Report 2017-18

The Internal Quality assurance Cell (IQAC) has been established in the College at the instance of the National assessment and accreditation Council (NAAC) as aaccreditation quality sustenance measure.

The IQAC will become a part of an Institution’s system and work towards realizing the goals of quality enhancement and sustenance. The prime task of the IQAC is to develop a system for conscious, consistent and catalytic improvement in overall performance of the Institutions. The IQAC will make a significant and meaningful contribution in the accreditation phase ofthe Institution. The IQAC will channelize all efforts and measures of the Institution towards promoting its academic excellence.

The objectives of the IQAC are:

1) To a heightened level of clarity and focus in institutional functioning towards quality enhancement and facilitate internalization of the quality culture.

2) To the enhancement and integration among the various activities of the institution and institutionalize many good practices.

3) To provide a sound basis for decision making to improve institutional functioning.

4) To act as a change agent in the institution.

5) To better internal communication.

6) To facilitate and improve quality of teaching methodology.

7) Periodical reviews of functioning and progress of various academic and co- curricular activities.

8) Self- appraisal of faculties based on collecting feedback from students.

Benefits:

IQAC will facilitate / contribute:

  1. To ensure a heightened level of clarity and focus in institutional functioning towards quality enhancement and internalization of the quality culture NAAC for Quality and Excellence in Higher Education.
  2. To promote measures for the functioning of the Institution towards quality enhancement through initialization of quality culture and Institutionalization of best practices.
  3. To build a better internal communication in the institution.
  4. To provide a sound basis for decision making to improve Institutional functioning.
  5. To act as a dynamic system for quality changes in the Institution.

Functions:

1. Development and application of quality benchmarks/ parameters for the various academic and administrative activities of the Institution.

2. Arrangement for feedback responses from students, parents and other stakeholders on quality-related processes of the institution.

3. Dissemination of information on the various quality parameters of higher education.

4. Documentation of the various programmes/activities leading to quality improvement.

5. Organization of workshops, seminars on quality related themes and promotion of quality circles.

6. Preparation of the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) to be submitted to NAAC based on the quality parameters.

The following are the events organized by IQAC for the AY 2017-18

1)Staff orientation program:

It was held on 1st August 2017.. The secretary Rev. Sr. Mary Vijaya welcomed the Chief guest Rev. Sr. Julie, secretary, St. Anne’s Institution, Halasuru, Sister Julie spoke about the vision of the college"To provide humanizing and liberalizing education so as to form responsible citizens who in solidarity with others will create a Just society" and highlighted the responsibilities of teachers in providing effective support for students with special needs. She elaborated on Teacher’s primary responsibility for student’s learning, insisted on Effective teaching, which is a continuous professional learning cycle, which includes planning, analysis, and implementation.

She also said that to develop collaborative structure, supportive team, and a positive, respectful working relationship should be maintained. She emphasized on loyalty to one’s profession, loyalty to oneself as a conscientious person.

Staff had a demonstration of Yoga and Meditation by yoga and pranic healing centre. Mrs. Indra Asst. Prof. Dept. of English expressed her gratitude through vote of thanks.

2)PTM- Parent Teacher meeting for the first year students

PTM was organized on 8th July 2017 in the college auditorium for the first years. Principal Ms.Gracelet Stanly had briefed about the college and its rules and regulations, about the tests and the internal marking scheme with regard to CBCS Scheme according to Bangalore University, Add-On programmes were all explained.

3)One dayState level FDP – GNAN 2018:

The IQAC of Sacred Heart Girls’ First Grade College conducted State Level Faculty Development Programme “GNAN - 2018” on 17.2.2018.Ms.R.Indra, Associate Professor, Department of English started the session with a briefing on the importance of FDP in educational field. The inauguration started with the lighting of the lamp to invoke God’s blessings. Ms. Mamatha, IQAC co-coordinator, head dept of management welcomed the gathering. She spoke about the Foundress of the college
Mother Thatipathri Gnanamma and the establishment of the congregation.

The Technical Session – 1 Ms. Latha, Head of the Department of Computer Science introduced the speaker for the first session Ms.Smitha, certified Life Skills Trainer and Counselor at Global Centre for Guidance and Counseling, Bangalore. She spoke about the need and importance of Emotional Intelligence in teaching career and how it affects the teacher- learner. It was a very interesting, interactive and participative session well received by all.

The Technical Session – 2 Ms.Anushka, Head of the Department of Commerce introduced the second speaker of the day Dr.RajdeepManwani, Associate Professor, Jain University, Bangalore. Dr.RajdeepManwani a great orator held the audience spell bound for the next two hours. He stressed on “Effective Teaching Methodology” which has to include craft, creativity, care and concern as part of the teaching methods. Filled with anectode, humour and activity the session was very interesting.

The Valedictory session was taken over by Dr. Sr. Anjali, HOD of English Department. After the feedback from the audience regarding the program, Principal Dr. Deepa thanked the IQAC for organizing the program and the speakers for willingly accepting the invitation and participants for having responded positively. She thanked all the faculty members for active participation. Ms. Mamatha IQAC coordinator gave heighlights of overall Gnan 2018.

The certificates were distributed to the participants and the program came to an end with lunch organized by the management.

4)PTM for Even Semester:

On 17th March 2018, IQAC organized a PTM for the students who had shortage of attendance in each individual subject i.e., below 75%, students who had scored less marks and the failures in the test are asked to bring their parents to meet their respective class teacher between 2pm to 4pm.

The purpose of the PTM meeting was to bring the quality and discipline in the academic excellence of the students and also to notify the parents with regard to academic record of their children.

Hence around 90 parents from the entire department had met the teachers with the above mentioned regard.

5)National seminar – 2018:

One day national seminar on “Indian Banking Sector- Trends, Challenges and opportunities in the era of Globalisation” in association with Indian Council For Business Education which was held on 4th April 2018, Wednesday.

The chief guest and key note speaker was Dr. M. Muninarayanappa, Dean, Chairman of Commerce & Management, Bangalore University, Bengaluru.

He briefed about the history, knowledge and importance of Indian banking sector. Dr. Deepa B.M Principal gave an idea on developing banking technologies in rural sector.

The technical session – 1, Mr.M.K. Krishna Ex. Chief Manager, Nodal Officer (SBIMF, Karnataka) and he briefed about challenges &opportunities in bankingSector and he further described about banking by saying that ‘state bank of India’ is the banker to the nation, it has a legacy of 20years in India and further he described about the rating agencies such as ICRA which is known as Integrity, Credibility, Reliability and Accountability. Further he scope about ‘consercium lending’ which is where two or more banks come together to lend a loan of more than rupees one crore and he also said that ‘GDP’-which is ‘Gold, Dollar and Petroleum if these commodities are more in our nation then there will be more of ‘International Monetary Fund’ coming into our nation.

The technical session – 2 CS.Dr.R.V. Tyagarajan, company secretary advisor, visiting professor. He stressed on ‘Issues and Challenges of Indian Banking Sector- cheating, forgery. He further described about ‘Bankruptcy Law Reforms committee’ [BLRC], ‘Financial Resolution & Deposit Insurance Bill 2017’ [FRDI], and ‘Deposit Insurance & Credit Guarantee Corporation’ [DICGC].

Once the technical session was over. There was paper presentation by Faculty as well as students on ‘INDIAN BANKING SECTOR’ and best paper presentation was rewarded. Mrs. Mamatha B.M HOD of Management highlighted the overall view of the NATIONAL SEMINAR ON ‘INDIAN BANKING SECTOR’. The valedictory session was taken over by Ms.Ranjitha.N, assistant professor of commerce.

As a part of closing session principal Dr.Deepa.B.M thanked the IQAC for organizing the program and the speakers for willingly accepting the invitation and participation for having responded positively. She thanked all the faculty members of commerce and management for their active participation.

At last but not the least certificates were distributed to participants and best paper presentation award was given to faculty as well as student for presenting the paper on INDIAN BANKING SECTOR and also best participant was awarded, the program came to an end with lunch organized by the management.
