General Course Goals:
- Be intellectually curious and take responsibility for your education. Be persistent with your own learning.
- Develop reasoning skills and use two and three dimensional modeling to solve problems
- Learn to take effective notes and ask effective questions
Expectations:
I will not ask things of you that I’m not willing to ask of myself. I will be in class on time and will be ready to teach you the concepts outlined by our objectives. I will expect you to be in class on time ready to learn.
I will be kind, civil, respectful to all of my students at all times and I will expect you to return this courtesy as well as extend it to your peers.
I will be proud of all of your hard work. Working hard will always result in positive accomplishments and will be celebrated. I will expect you to turn in work you are proud of and make sure our classroom is one we can be proud of and comfortable in.
I will be honest and will use all of my skills to reach you with information or help you find the information you need to learn. I expect you to ask questions any time information is unclear or confusing using appropriate procedures.
Units of Study:
Review of Basic Algebra Concepts, Linear Equations and Inequalities in One Variable, Linear Equations in Two Variables and Functions, Systems of Linear Equations and Inequalities, Polynomials, Rational Expressions and Rational Equations, Radicals and Complex Numbers, Quadratic Equations and Functions, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions and Applications, Conic Sections, and Binomial Expansions, Sequences, and Series.
Grading Policy
Approximately 40% of your grade is based on classroom assignments and projects. Quizzes will make up 10% of your grade and tests will make up 50% of your grade. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask me for your make-up assignments and to complete them. You may make arrangements with me for instruction.
Late Work:
Any work turned in after the due date requires a conversation with myself on why it was not turned in on time. Fairness and extenuating circumstances will dictate specific grading results on the late work.
Extra Help:
I get here around 8:00 and leave about 4:30. Please let me know at least the day before if you plan on coming in so that I can make sure you have any appropriate passes you need and so that I am in my classroom.
Procedures:
- Come into the classroom, make sure you have your supplies for the class period and be seated. There will be a task for you to work on immediately.
- Raise your hand if you would like to be acknowledged for a question or a comment.
- Put your device away unless I have given permission for it to be out.
- You may have water with a lid. Please do not bring open cups, drinks other than water, or food.
- We will be seated and silent before we leave the classroom. The sooner that happens, the sooner I will dismiss you.
Discipline: All discipline infractions will be recorded in my discipline book. For minor infractions, there will be a conversation, then a phone call home, then detentions, then an office referral. For major infractions, there will be an immediate office referral.
Cheating:
Cheating is anything that provides and advantage on assigned work. It will result in no credit for the assignment.
Class Needs: pencils, erasers, graph paper, 1” binder, dividers, one hole-punched folder, and a calculator (TI-30XIIS)
