GENERAL:
Introduction of Attendees: Krishna Brahmamdam introduced all attendees.
DECISION ITEMS:
- Interim Governing Board: 13-member Interim Governing Board (IGB) was established. This body will administer the temple organization until the constitution is approved by the general body of the Temple organization. Prior to this meeting, selection of the IGB volunteers was organized by the current Board of Directors Krishna Brahmamdam and Raghu Raman, using the following criteria. Eligible volunteers provided their willingness to serve or not to serve in the IGB.
- Paid member as of January 28, 2008, and
- Contributed or signed limited guarantee loan application with Bank & Trust Company for the amount of $5,000 or more
The following 13 volunteers signed the consent forms to serve in the Interim Governing Board: Krishna Brahmamdam, Romesh Khardori, Sanjai Nagendra, Obul Reddy, Muktesh Mehra, Pradeep Mehta, Dharmendra Nimavat, Anita Patel, Samir Patel, Raghu Raman, Krishna Rao, Jagdish Raut, and Shipra Somani.
Narinder Khanna, Ranga Sai Brahmamdam, and Jagannadha Rao Brahmamdam have waived to serve in the IGB.
The following officers have been elected by this body: Krishna Brahmamdam, Chairman; Romesh Khardori, Vice Chairman, Sanjai Nagendra, Secretary; and Sita Reddy, Treasurer (non-voting Board member, attends all Board meetings)
Only one member will have voting rights per family. In case of one member’s absence, a designated family member may serve as a proxy. No further expansion of the IGB is expected.
A quorumis defined as 7 out of 13 IGB members.The IGB intends to meet at least once a month. Board Chairman may call for special meetings as needed. Issues of immediate importance may be handled through telephone or e-mail.
- Legal responsibilities remainin effect with the current Board of Directors (Krishna Brahmamdam and Ragu Raman) till pending contract issues with the Chatham property are resolved. At an appropriate time in the near future, those responsibilities will be transferred to the current IGB or Board of Trustees when it is established.
- Sub-Committees: There will be no interim Executive Committee however; IGB may establish special committees and ad-hoc committees on as needed basis. With general consultation of IGB members, Board Chair may appoint members to the special / Ad-hoc committees, community liaisons and any project based volunteers.
The following sub-committees have been established:
a. Priest committee: This subcommittee (Dharmendra Nimavat and Krishna Bramhamdam will draft a recommendationto the Board on priest duties, salary issues). It is generally approved by the members to back pay the priest for his services from November 2007 thru Feb 2008; and put him on full pay roll effective March 1, 2008. This issue may be approved prior to the next board meeting.
- Community liaisons: Prabhakar Chandupatla, Ramanathan Santhanagopalan (Decatur), Subhash Chaudhary, Vinod Patel, Mani PH, Ghanta Rao
- Fundraising committee chair: Jagadish Raut
- Prasada /puja committee will be announced later
MONITORINGITEMS:
Interim temple operational issues:
The hours of the interim temple will have to be adjustedbased upon public attendance and needs. Effective March 2008, the IGB will organize additional spiritual / religious events in the interim temple to bolster attendance. Encourage group bhajans and some free Prasad on Saturdays.
Chatham property/ permanent temple search:
a. A detailed appeal letter was sent to the Seller requesting the American Baptist Church of Great River Region Board of Directors to reconsider/reverse their decision of rejecting the offer to sell the real estate property to us. We are now awaiting a response from the seller. This letter will be made available to the temple community and temple website.
b. As we wait for the response from ABC-GRR, we continue our efforts to look for other properties/land. However, no binding transactions will be made until issues with the Chatham property are settled.
c. It is imperative to send a news letter to the community giving a status report on the issues with the Chathamproperty and others in general.
d. The temple website will be updated.
INCIDENTAL ITEMS:
- Suggested to print a Greater Springfield Indian Community Telephone directory to generate some revenue from advertisements and sale of the directory.
- Suggested to incorporate bhajans/spiritual activities coordinated by other sub-groups within the community into the temple activities.
The board adjourned the meeting at 3:50 pm., agreeing to hold its next monthly meeting on Wednesday March 12, 2008, at 7:00 pm at 920 S. Spring St., Springfield, Illinois.
