Steering Committee Application

You have the chance to be involved in the planning of Tournies Convention 2014 by applying for the Steering Committee!

Tournies Convention will take place December 12-14, 2014. Being a member of the Steering Committee is one of many great responsibilities that you can hold in BBYO! Steering Committee members have the opportunity to influence the programming content of one of the most exciting events of the year. Applicants should be incredible role models, hard workers, and eager to become the driving force behind this convention!

Please take a moment to think about whether or not you have the time to dedicate to planning Tournies Convention. Steering should be a top priority as convention approaches (after family and school of course). You will have the chance to work with peers from across LOR and ECR to plan and lead amazing and inspiring programs.

STEERING OPPORTUNITIES

Convention Coordinators (1 LOR AZA + 1 LOR BBG + 1 ECR) –The Convention Coordinators will oversee the Steering Committee throughout the convention planning process. They are responsible for maintaining a high standard of programming and ensuring that all planning deadlines are met by the committee. The coordinators are also responsible for opening and closing ceremonies, the convention giveaway and all convention logistics (in conjunction with the Regional Staff). The position of Convention Coordinator involves a significant time commitment - Be prepared to dedicate countless hours to phone calls, emails and program development in addition to the Steering Meetings.Convention Coordinators must be available to attend all Steering Committee Meetings (listed below).The ECR Convention Coordinator must join the meetings using Google+ video calls.

LOR Convention Associate (1 AZA or 1 BBG) – The LOR Convention Associate will work directly with the Convention Coordinators, acting as an extra pair of hands throughout the entire planning process. Additionally, the Convention Associate will coordinate the convention check-in process, hospitality, Shabbat atmosphere and shuk. Applicants for the position of Convention Associate should be incredibly organized, hard-working, experienced, and able to commit a significant amount of time toward Steering. The LOR Convention Associate must be available to attend all Steering Committee Meetings (listed below).

Program Steerers –The Program Steerers will work directly with the Convention Coordinators and the Convention Associate to ensure that Tournies 2014 features programs that are of the highest quality and that the entire convention is planned to its fullest potential. Each Program Steerer will be assigned to develop a specific program or programs. Applicants should be extremely creative, critical, visionary, and able to commit an incredible amount of time toward steering. Program Steerers must be available to attend all Steering Committee Meetings (listed below).ECR Steerers should join the meetings using Google+ video calls.

Program Steerers may select from the following program options:

  • Competition Coordinators (2) – Plan and run all of the convention competitions as per the Contest Manual.
  • Icebreakers (2) – Plan and run a creative activity that serves as a way for everyone to get to know each other and learn names.
  • Friday Night Services (4)– Plan 1 of 2 Friday Night Services, ensuring a fun and meaningful experience and a relation to the convention theme.
  • Shabbat Limmud Sessions (2)– Plan two rounds of engaging Limmud sessions to take place on Friday Night, utilizing themes such as Stand Up, Speak Up for Israel, Globalization and Jewish Enrichment, with a focus on engaging both internal and external facilitators.
  • Saturday Morning Services (4)– Plan 1 of 2 Saturday Morning Services, ensuring a fun and meaningful experience and a relation to the convention theme.
  • Shabbat Electives (2)Plan Shabbat Electives in 2 timeslots that the convention body can choose from that are exciting, fun and different!
  • Havdalah (2) – Plan a Havdalah experience, ensuring a fun and meaningful experience and a relation to the convention theme
  • Seniors Program (1) – Plan and run a creative and meaningful activity exclusively for the seniors of LOR and ECR in relation to the convention theme.

Steering Committee Meetings

Everyone must attend all meetings of the Steering Committee, as follows:

  • Tuesday, November 11th 6pm to 8pm at theSchwartz/Reisman Centre (Vaughan)
  • Tuesday, November 18th 6pm to 8pm at the Schwartz/Reisman Centre (Vaughan)
  • Tuesday, November 25th 6pm to 8pm at the Schwartz/Reisman Centre (Vaughan)
