·  Having advanced across measures this week, Salt (Sony) emerges as the clear favourite among this week's openers. With awareness levels of 12% unaided and 39% total (up +5% points and 15% points, respectively), the film is by far the best-known of the week. “Definite” interest, at 38% overall (+2% points) is well above the 27% norm, and 10% make it their first choice among titles opening and in release; highest among younger males (13% vs. 9-10% among the other quads).

·  Le Bruit Des Glacons (Wildbunch) has lower awareness (3% unaided, 19% total), but manages 6% first choice among titles opening/ in release (2% points above norm), skewing older (7-8% vs. 2-4% among the younger quads).

·  Also out this week, local adventure 600Kg D'Or Pur (Gaumont) has increased its awareness from 12% to 20% (unaided is up from 1% to 3%). Despite the broadening of awareness, interest is similar to last week (21%) and first choice is just below the 4% norm at 3%, skewing male.

·  Gentleman Broncos (Fox), Ondine (UGC), and The Switch (Metrop) have limited awareness (1%, 6% and 10% respectively).

France MARKET OVERVIEW

OPENING NEXT WEEK (1 September 2010):

·  Avatar (Special Edition) (Fox) has made small advances across the measures this week, leaving it well positioned for its opening next weekend. With awareness levels of 5% and 48% (+1% point and +6% points respectively), the film is by far the best-known of the week. “Definite” interest, at 44% overall, is above the 27% norm with interest levels fairly even across the quads. First choice is up a point to 11%.

·  Also opening, Piranha 3D (Wildbunch) has much lower awareness (2% unaided, 21% total), with first choice unchanged at 1%.

OTHER PRE-RELEASE TITLES:

·  Studio Canal’s The Last Exorcism continues to hold the highest overall awareness of films releasing in three weeks (12%) and it is the only title to have any unaided awareness in its release week (2%). The title also leads first choice measures despite a loss of 1% point week on week (now at 1%).

·  Of the films four weeks out, Resident Evil: Afterlife (Metrop) remains the best positioned, having picked up another point in both awareness measures (now 3% unaided, 28% overall). First choice this week has softened slightly to 4% (was 5%) led by younger males (7%).

·  Slight increases in awareness of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps (Fox) cements its position ahead of the pack of films opening in five weeks, with 24% total aware (+2% points), 1% unaided (+1% point) and 2% first choice (unchanged).

·  Despicable Me (Universal), set for release in six weeks, has picked up a further 1% point in both awareness measures (leading the week with 2% unaided and 18% overall).

·  Animated sequel Arthur Et La Guerre Des Deux Mondes (Europa) opens in seven weeks and now boasts 49% total awareness (+7% points), 6% unaided (+2% points) and 6% first choice (unchanged).

·  Re-entering the tracking at the eight week mark Paranormal Activity 2 (Paramount) leads by a comfortable margin. Awareness is strong with 1% mentioning the film spontaneously and 27% aware when prompted. First choice is 3%, rising to 8% among younger females.

25 August / / ·  Salt has advanced across measures this week, leaving it well positioned among this week’s openers.
·  With awareness levels of 12% and 39% (+ 5% points and 15% points, respectively), the film is by far the best-known of the week.
·  “Definite” interest, at 38% overall, benefits from a 2% point increase and is well above the 27% norm. Interest levels are highest among younger females (47% vs. 35-38% among the other quads).

·  There is no one stand-out title releasing on Grown Ups’ date, although the special edition of Avatar opens the week before and is likely to holdover well (currently 11% first choice overall).

·  With the film four weeks out, awareness has increased by 1% point (now 6%) but remains below the 8% norm, and unaided awareness is unchanged at 0%.
·  The film holds on to a full 1% of first choice, at 2% among older females.
·  The latest Resident Evil continues to be the strongest title opening on this date, having 4% first choice overall, rising to 7% among younger males.

HORS-LA-LOI

A page torn from history, the film also looks at the Indochine War and the events of October 17, 1961 in Paris, when the police orchestrated a bloody suppression of a demonstration against the curfew imposed on Algerian workers in the French capital.

LE BRUIT DES GLACONS

Penned by the director, Bertrand ("HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE ME?") Blier, the film centers on a failed writer and alcoholic (Jean Dujardin) who receives a visit from the incarnation of his cancer (Albert Dupontel) and lets him settle into his home.

LUFTSLOTTET SOM SPRÄNGDES (The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest)

Swedish thriller based on a series of books by Steig Larsson. The third and final part of the Millennium series. Follows previous films; Män som hatar kvinnor (Men Who Hate Women) and Flickan som lekte med elden (The Girl Who Was Playing with Fire).

Lisbeth is recovering in a hospital and awaiting trial for three murders when she is released. Mikael must prove her innocence. Meanwhile, Lisbeth is plotting her own revenge against the people who put her in this situation.

Notre jour viendra

Patrick and Remy have no people, no country, no army: they are red. Together they fight the world and its morality, in a hallucinatory quest to Ireland and freedom.

ONDINE

Oscar-winning filmmaker Neil Jordan's "ONDINE" centers on Syracuse (Colin Farrell), a lonely fisherman who one day pulls a beautiful woman named Ondine (Alicja Bachleda) out of the sea in his nets. His young daughter Annie is convinced that she is a 'selkie' - a creature from Irish folklore much like a mermaid. Syracuse has his doubts, but as Ondine brings some luck and joy to his otherwise downcast life, he starts to think she might be right.

PAULINE ET FRANCOIS

Co-written by the director, Renaud Fély and Gaëlle Macé (co-screenwriter on Catherine Corsini's 'LEAVING'), 'PAULINE ET FRANÇOIS' centers on Pauline (Laura Smet), a young woman who moves to a small town to work in the local bank. Her neighbor turns out to be François (Yannick Renier), a roofer from the region, whose sister Catherine (Lea Drucker) works at the bank. But Pauline's arrival opens up a rift and she suddenly finds herself caught between brother and sister.


SANS QUEUE NI TETE

The film centers on Alice (Isabelle Huppert), an independent prostitute who is tired of her job and plans to undergo psychoanalysis to find the strength to change her life. Meanwhile, psychoanalyst Xavier (Bouli Lanners) has just been left by his wife and is weary of listening to his clients. monologues. He decides to call on a professional to satisfy his erotic urges. The two characters thus meet, but this is not the start of a romance, just the first stage in a difficult journey which, through conflicts, ordeals and disappointments, leads them both to rediscover themselves.
