Intentional Interim Pastor Agreement

The Governing Board of ______Church, in ______agrees to utilize the ministry services of ______as an Intentional Interim Pastor, to fulfill the functions specified in the attached “Job Description,” according to theterms and conditions agreed to below.

In consideration of the mutual promises herein made, and other good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which are hereby acknowledged, it is agreed as follows:

1. TERM OF AGREEMENT. The term of this Intentional Interim Pastorate shall begin on ______, with their first Sunday service being ______, and extend through the first Sunday the new Pastor arrives at the church, or an otherwise mutually agreed upon date.Apart from unforeseen circumstances, the governing board agrees to give Interim Pastor 30 days notice after a senior pastor has accepted the call to the church.

2. SCHEDULE. The Pastor will provide an average of ______hours minimum per week. The normal schedule is for him to be on site _____ days per week, including Sunday service(s). Specific office hours to be agreed upon.The Pastor will be available by phone or e-mail during the rest of the week, except for his day off, and may be involved in church life on other days as needed.

3. COMPENSATION. A total package of $______per month gross is agreed to between our church and the Pastor. The Pastor will be responsible for taxes and the breakdown of the gross amount. Salary will be paid according to the church’s regular paydays with the check made out to the Pastor, who as an independent contractor, will require a 1099 for IRS purposes

4. HOUSING (check one)

6. REIMBURSEMENTS FOR MINISTRY EXPENSES

a. Commuting expensesto and from the church (check one)

b. Local church ministry travel will be documented and reimbursed at the current IRS allowed rate.

c. Professional expenses such as business meals will be reimbursed up to ______/month.

d. Other church ministry expenses (i.e. printing, office supplies) will be reimbursed monthly.

e. Expenses must be approved according to current church policy and remain within budgetary guidelines.

7. VACATION PAY. The Pastor shall receive one week vacation pay for each four (4) months of service. Unused vacation may be "banked" and reimbursed at the end of the interim period.

8. CONTINUING EDUCATION. The Intentional Interim Pastor may attend continuing education classes, seminars or other training. Cost reimbursement will be determined at the time the request is made to attend the continuing education. The attendance shall not interfere with his church duties, and must be approved in advance.

9. HOLIDAYS. The Intentional Interim Pastor is granted the following days as paid holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. If a holiday occurs on a day requiring ministerial services, another day will be substituted.

10. SICK LEAVE. The Intentional Interim Pastor will be granted up to ten days of paid sick leave in case of illness. In case of extended illness the Converge MidAmerica leadership will work with the governing board to cover the needs of the church. The church will pay visiting speakers a standard honorarium.

11. AUTHORITY. The Pastor will have authority to do his job as stipulated in the attached Job Description, operating under the authority and auspices of the governing board of the Church.

12. The Intentional Interim Pastor is not, and will not, be considered as a candidate for the position of senior pastor.Once a senior pastor has been secured he will immediately leave the church.

13. The Intentional Interim Pastor will be allowed to take other ministries as long as they do not jeopardize the integrity of the ministry at the Church.

14. The Interim Pastor may take a Sunday off when necessary, with advance approval by the governing board, and continent upon him arranging acceptable pulpit supply.

15. This agreement may be terminated by a thirty (30) daywritten notice by either party. Should termination be at the church's option prior to the completion of the first six months, other than for reasons of immorality or inability to fulfill the terms of this covenant, the church agrees to pay two (2) months severance, plus any unused vacation due. Should the termination be at the Pastor's option, the church will only pay him for any unused but earned vacation.

16. This agreement will serve as a covenant between the Intentional Interim Pastor and the church. Exceptions and changes to this agreement may be made at any time by mutual written consent of the Pastor and the governing board.
