Integrating Purpose Exploration into the Curriculum

Project Description Form (2017/18)

To be considered for funding, your projectmustalign with the enduring understandings, or “big ideas,” and associated learning outcomes of the Explore Your Purpose (EYP) at DePaul initiative, which can be found here: . Faculty/staff are encouraged to make creative and meaningful connections between the purpose exploration outcomes and their specific areas of teaching, research and service. In order to be considered for funding, faculty/staff must illustrate how their efforts will ultimately lead to the integration of purpose exploration and reflection by students in credit-bearing courses.

Project descriptions are due to the EYP Committee by Wednesday, November 22, 2017, and should be submitted online (link TBD). Recipients will be notified by Friday, December 1, 2017. Selected recipients will need to submit a final report for the project to the EYP Committee by June 1, 2018.

Purpose of Project

Describe your project.

  1. Provide a clear statement of the project and explain briefly why you have chosen this effort.
  2. State, in clear and measurable terms, how the project aligns with the Explore Your Purpose at DePaul enduring understandings and associated learning outcomes.

Theoretical Framework

Provide a brief description of how the project fits with your operative theoretical framework for teaching and learning and/or with your academic discipline; this should include mention of the relevant literature guiding the effort. Provide a bibliography as an appendix.

Impact of Project

Describe how your project will have an impact in deepening or expanding the understanding of purpose exploration and vocational discernment among students, staff and faculty at DePaul, consistent with DePaul’s Catholic-Vincentian heritage and mission. This may also include how the project will advance the work of faculty/staff in explicitly linking their discipline to broader questions of meaning and social purpose, or vocation.

Sustainability

Indicate how the project can be potentially repeatable and/or sharable with other faculty/staff in the field of study and/or across disciplines and/or how the development of content can be extended and utilized beyond the current academic year.

Dissemination of Results

Describe how you plan to share the results of your project, within the DePaul community. This includes within a credit-bearing course, however also potentially with other faculty and staff, as well as any outside DePaul outlets.
