INSTURCTION TO SUBMIT A PAPER

TO INFRASTRUCTURE PLANNING REVIEW *

1. Introduction

This paper aims to illustrate the formats of English manuscripts to be submitted to an annual conference of infrastructure planning division of JSCE.

2. Formats

(1) Forms of Manuscript

Prepare camera ready four page manuscripts which are typed in 11 points size in Times Romans, single-spaced on one side of "A4" white papers (210mm in width, 297mm in length) . Manuscripts should be laid out within 170mm x 254mm area in each page, i.e., left and right margins are 20mm, and top and bottom margins are 19mm and 24mm each.

(2) Layout of first page of manuscripts

a) Title

The first page of manuscripts should contain the article title, author(s) name(s) and footnote(s).

At top of first page, type title using all capital letters. The title should be laid out in the center of the lines.

b) Author(s) name(s)

From the fifth line in the first page, author(s) name(s) should be typed in the flush right style.

c) Footnotes

In the bottom of the first page, footnotes should be typed in 8 point size. The footnotes should correspond to the title and author(s) name(s), and contain keywords and the following information about author(s), i.e., membership(s), degree(s), affiliation(s) (mailing address (es), telephone number(s), fax number(s) or e-mail address (es)).

(3) Text

Text of manuscripts should be typed from the ninth line of the first page. The text consists of chapters, sections and subsections.

All the chapters should be labeled with arabic numbers, e.g., 1., 2. ・・・. Headings of the chapters should be flush right. The first character of each word of the chapter headings should be typed in capital letters. A single blank line should placed both before the chapter headings and after ones.

All the sections should also be labeled with arabic numbers, e.g., (1), (2), ・・・. Headings of the sections should be flush left and written in upper and lower cases. A single blank line placed before the section headings.

All the subsections should label with alphabets, e.g., a), b), ・・・. Headings of the sections should be flush left and written in upper and lower cases. No blank lines are placed before and after the subsection headings.

(4) Figures and Tables

Layout figures and tables within the area 170mm x 254mm. Figures and tables should be labeled with arabic numbers. Captions of figures should be placed below the figures and those of tables should be placed above the tables.

(5) References

References should be listed at the end of the paper, labeled with arabic number superscripts in order of appearance in the text. This list must only include publications which are referred to in the text. The reference should be appeared

in the text by referring to the arabic number which is the label of the corresponding reference, e.g., i) 'Doboku1) shows that ・・・', ii) 'These Studies have the same features2)―4)'.

References to journal articles should contain 'author(s) name(s) (family name(s), initials of first name(s))', 'com-plete title of the paper', 'title of the journal', 'volume (in arabic number)', 'first and last pages' and 'year of publication'. If the publication has more than three authors names can be written as the name of first author and ‘et el.’, e.g., Allow, K.J., et al.. The title of the paper which is referred to should be written in the form that the first character of the first word of the title is written in upper cases and the following words are written in lower cases.

References to books should contain 'author(s) name(s) (family name(s), initials of the first name(s))', 'complete title of the book [complete title of contribution of the book, "in", complete title of the book, editor(s) name(s) (family name(s), initials of the first name(s)), "ed(s)." in parenthesis]’, 'first and last pages' if necessarily, 'publisher', 'place of publication' and 'year of publication'. The title of the book which is referred to should be written in upper cases for the first character of each word and lower cases for the other characters.
