3. Provide overview of Game of Life Semester Project / 1. Have the students list goals then divided them in the goal ranges. Work out how to prioritizing one goal from each categories and how to work toward those goals
2. Discuss the personal and external resources to achieve sample goals.
3. Use the handout Goal Setting to model how to create a long-term goal (retirement), a medium-term goal, and a short term goal like buying a prom dress. Remind students to start an emergency fund for $2,000 as a second short-term budget goal. / 1. Have students list their current sources of income? Poll those who have jobs to tell the pros and cons of having job.
2. Have students track their spending habits for the month? Look at the need vs. want.
3. Ask students How they decide what to spend and where to send it.
4. Look at opportunity cost of junk food hand out. / 1. Go over reasons to budget and the budgeting process
2. Using the handout, My First Budget, model how to create a budget using starting salary for a first year teacher with a Bachelor’s Degree in HISD - $44,987.
3. Have students choose a career and a likely starting salary for that career. Have students complete a budget for a young person earning that salary and create a mind web. / 1. Students rework a budget based on unforeseen events and compare tthere planned expenses with actual expenses
