PREREQUISITES:MAT170 (Precalculus) or equivalent with a grade of C or better or passing the placement test.
PLACEMENT TEST: Required for everyone. Not taking the placement test at all will result in the student's grade being lowered by one letter grade

50% Four in-class tests, Mastery exam
25% Final Exam
GRADING SCALE:A = 90 to 100% B = 80 to 89% C = 70 to 79%
D = 60 to 69% F = 0 to 59%
CALCULATORS: A graphing calculator is required (TI-82, 83, 86 and Casio 9800
is recommended). You may not use a TI-92 or a laptop.
SOFTWARE: We will have an introduction to MAPLE 6, a commercial computer algebra system. MAPLE can also be accessed from both Macs and PCs at any of the campus computing sites and at the ECA comp. Lab or purchased in the book store.
MASTERY EXAM: There will be a mastery exam on techniques of differentiation. This is a pass/fail exam; you must pass with a minimum score of 85% or you will receive one lower letter grade at the end of the semester. You will be given at most three attempts to pass the exam.
TESTING CENTER:located in PSA 21 (basement). In order to be admitted to the testing center each student must havea valid ASU Sun Card and a testing center label.
FINAL EXAMwill be comprehensive and will be given on Saturday, December 9that 7:40 AM.
COURSE POLICIES: Students are responsible for assigned material whether or not it is covered in class. Students are responsible for material covered in class whether or not it is in the text. Working regularly on assigned problems and attending class are essential to survival. Homework will be collected on Fridays at the beginning of the class. No late HW will be accepted and no make-up quizzes will be given. Homework problems will be announced in class and listed on my web page. Make-up exams are at the discretion of the instructor. In any case, no make-up exam will be given unless the student has notified the instructor before the test is given. Message may be left in my office, at the main office (965-3951) or through email. You must make every reasonable effort to notify me before the exam is given and document your reason for missing the exam.
