Instructions for Updating the Workflows Client

October 2012

Introduction

All workstations must load the upgraded Workflows client before connecting to the upgraded Symphony server. There are three ways you may upgrade:

  • Open Workflows as usual and you will be prompted to upgrade
  • Download the client upgrade from our server to a USB drive
  • Click directly on this link to connect to our server and download the client upgrade

The latter two methods will allow you to move from workstation to workstation for the upgrade and decrease use of network bandwidth during the upgrade. We recommend that larger libraries use one of these methods.

When updating the Workflows client at your library you must be logged in tothecomputer asthe WindowsAdministrator.

Whether you upgrade directly from server or from removable media such as USB drive or CD, the directions are the same. If you use a USB drive you will need to download the installation file and save it to you drive. The username and passwordare both libstaff and it can be downloaded here:

  • If you are updating from a USB drive, just insert the drive into your computer and browse to it and run fupd_jwf.exe and follow the directions below.
  • If you are updating via Workflows, log in as you normally would and follow the directions below.

Upgrade Process

  1. When you click Yes to Update Staff Client a window will open with a message that Workflows software will be downloaded for updating Click OK
  2. Software will begin downloading – do not click cancel
  3. Click OK on Staff Client is exiting.
  4. Open the Workflows client again
  5. Click Next at prompt to Install Wizard for Workflows
  6. You will have to accept the License Agreement and click Next
  7. Leave the Destination folder as the default and choose Next, Installand Finish
  8. The typical Configuration box should open. The IP address is still 206.187.4.109 and the port number is still 5100. Log in as you normally would.
  9. You should now be seeing the following screen where you can choose Yes or No:

  • If you choose No, Workflows will continue to log you in, but you will be prompted on future logins
  • If you choose Yes, you will have to start installingWorkflows again until you come to the screen below. If you leave the Modify button checked and click on Cancel and Finish you should be able to log in from now on without being prompted.

To verify that the workstation is accessing the correct version of Symphony and the client has loaded successfully, click on Help on the Workflows toolbar.

  • Click on Session Info—the Server version should be 3.4.1.2.GAthen click OK
  • Click on Help again and then click on About – the client version appears under Sirsi Dynix in the logo box. The client version is 3.4.1.2.1051

After the upgrade completes, if you do not see the server and client versions given above, the client has not been updated and you will need to start over or contact LMxAC.

When staff is required to login to Workflows with a different user names such as HOLDS or REPORTS, you will be prompted to update the staff client each time that user logs on. You will NOT need to update the client again as long as you have the server and client versions listed above. Just click NO.

Reminder:If you are using Themes, make sure the Multiple Windows Modebox is checked under Preference-Desktop-Desktop Setup. This allows users to have multiple windows open at the same time.

If you are running Windows 7, it is also recommended (and it may be done already) to go into the local computer’s C drive and give the C:\Program Files\Sirsi folder Full Control to the Everyone group. To do this, right click on the above folder and select Properties and Security and verify that the Everyone group is there and Full Control is checked.

NOTE: If you are running Windows 7 64 bit the path should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Sirsi

NOTE: In the extreme case and at last resort, if the upgrade has failed completely, go into the Add\Remove Programs and uninstall any instances of Workflows listed. Then re-install again.
