Math Game
Mathtastic Exploration
Instructions for the Teacher:
This game is meant for students who are currently learning about angles and their classifications. They should be able to use a protractor to be able to identify acute, obtuse, right, and straight angles.
The goal of the game is for the students to navigate their space ship to Earth by using their knowledge of angles. They do this by using a “laser pointer” to locate satellites in space. The student is then asked a question regarding the angle the angle the laser makes between the satellite and space ship. Each correct answer to a classification will get their spaceship closer to Earth. Each wrong answer will expend one of their limited space ship “lives”. There are 11 questions in which the student can answer. Each will award them 10 points if they are correct for a total of 110 points.
Instructions for the Student:
1)Press START button to begin the game. The ABOUT button shows the game’s credits.
2)The “How to Play” screen shows a short description of how the game is played. There is a LEARN button that will display a screen with information about angles. Press the BACK button to return to the “How to Play” screen.
3)After reading the “How to Play” and “Learn” screens, press the PLAY button to begin.
4)The “Space” scene show the following elements:
- The little space ship icons in the button left hand corner show the amount of space ship “lives” you have left.
- The score is shown beneath the lives left in the bottom left corner.
- Satellites are shown floating in front of the space ship in space.
- Your space ship is shown at the bottom center of the screen.
- The space ship has a red laser projecting from it. This is used to locate satellites.
- Earth grows larger in view as the game progresses.
5)When you use your laser pointer to locate a satellite by clicking on it, a “Questionnaire” screen pops up. The question will ask for the type of angle the laser makes while pointing to the satellite. It gives four possible answers. Select one of the answers and then use the SUBMIT button to submit your answer. If you are correct, you gain 10 points and get closer to Earth. If the answer is wrong, you lose a life. Press the RETURN button to go back to the “Space” screen after answering the question.
6)If you win a “Congratulations” screen is shown. Lose, and a “Game Over” is instead displayed.
