Summary. The following guidelines have been prepared for authors of communications to be presented at the forthcoming EUROMECH colloquium 603,Porto, Portugal, September 5-7, 2018. They provide the rules for the preparation of Extended Abstracts/Short Papers (minimum 2, maximum 4 pages). Authors are requested to follow these guidelines in order that uniformity is achieved in the digital Proceedings. The summary should not exceed 750 characters (with spaces).

Keywords: Maximum five, minimum three keywords.

1Introduction

This document provides instructions for extended abstracts/short papers to be included in the proceedings of EUROMECH 603. Extended abstracts/short papersin Portable Document Format (PDF) should be sent by e-mail to to the submission deadline (15March 2018).The submitting author will receive a notification of reception of the extended abstract.

The first page should include the Editorial Heading, as shown in these instructions. Headings of successive pages shouldcontain the names of the authors. These headings must be included in the paper by the authors.

2Title, authors, affiliations

The following order should be followed when typing extended abstracts: title, author(s) name(s), affiliation(s), keywords, full text and references.

The title should be written centred, in 12pt, boldfaceTimes New Roman. It should be single spaced; the space above the title is equal to 42pt, the one below is 12 pt. Each author’s name should include the first nameand surname; middle initials are optional. Names should be written centred, in 11ptboldfaceTimes New Roman, below the title.

Authors’ affiliations should be written centred, in 11pt, Times New Roman, below the authors’ names. The name of the author presenting the paper should be underlined.

3Section headings

Main headings should be written left aligned, in 12pt, boldface and Times New Roman letters, with an initial capital for the first word only. There should be a 12pt space before and 6pt after the main headings. All sections, except acknowledgments and references, should be numbered

3.1Secondary headings

Secondary headings should be written left aligned, 11 pt, boldface Times New Roman, with an initial capital for the first word only. There should be a 12pt space before and no space after the secondary headings.

The margins must be formatted to 2.5cm on the sides, on the top and on the bottom of the extended abstract. The headersand footers must be 1.7cm.

The size of the extended abstract/short paper should be2 to 4 pages including figures, tables and references.

Please do not insert page numbers.

4.1Keywords

Please write at least three and no more than fivekeywords, separated by commas. They should be written left aligned, in 11pt Times New Roman, and the line must begin with the wordKeywords (as shown in these instructions). There should be a 18pt space between the keywords and the line above and between the keywords and the line below.

5Figures

All figures should be numbered consecutively and captioned. The caption title should be written centred, in 11pt Times New Roman, below the figure. A 6pt space should separate the figure from the caption, and a 12pt space should separate the upper part of the figure and the bottom of the caption from the surrounding text.

Figure 1. Example of figure

Preferably, figures should be included within the text; but they may also be added at the end of the document.

6Tables

Tables should be numbered consecutively and captioned. The caption title should be written centred, in 11pt Times New Roman, with upper and lower case letters, above the table. A 6pt space should separate the Table from the caption, and a 12pt space should separate the Table and its caption from the surrounding text. Please avoid using vertical lines in the table, following the example provided.

Table 1. Example of table

Title 1 / Title 2 / Title 3
C11 / C12 / C13
C21 / C22 / C23
C31 / C32 / C33
C41 / C42 / C43

Preferably, tables should be included in the text; but they may also be added at the end.

7Equations and mathematics

Equations should be centred and should be numbered with the number on the right-hand side. Please use italics for scalars (u), and bold (u) for vectors and matrices in all mathematical expressions.

, / (1)
. / (2)

A 6pt space should separate the first and last equations from the surrounding text.

8Format of references

References should be cited in the text by placing sequential numbers in brackets (for example, [1], [2, 4, 9], [2-5]). They should be numbered in the order in which they are cited and grouped together at the end of the extended abstract/short paper in numerical order, as shown in these instructions.

9Conclusions

  • Extended abstracts/short papers of 2-4 pages should be submitted by e-mail to .
  • The extended abstract/short paper should be written following the instructions of this document.
  • It must be translated to Portable Document Format (PDF) before submission.
  • The deadline for submission is the 15thof March 2018.
  • Confirmation by e-mail will be sent to submitting authors.
