Instructions for Obtaining ContinuingEducationUnits (CEUs)for Re-licensure Credit for Required Alternate Assessment Training2014-2015

For re-licensure,teachers need six credits every five years. Teachers may use3creditsof ContinuingEducation Units (CEUs) plus3upper division credits withintheir areaofendorsement for re-licensure.

Teachers of students with significant cognitive disabilities will receive training inorder to be able to administerthe alternate assessments inEnglishlanguage arts,mathematics, and science.Additionally,the Dynamic LearningMaps (DLM)consortiumhas developed manyprofessional development modulesrelating toinstructionalstrategies forteachers ofstudents withsignificantcognitive disabilities which we hope will be useful for teachers.

The EED Assessment Unit has received approval from EED Teacher Certification to allow teachers who will be training to administer Alternate Assessments this year to receive one CEU for 15hours ofonline training modules/appliedtraining=1CEU.

The costis$50.00per CEU.Checksare written payable to DepartmentofEducation& Early Development. Creditcards are accepted.(Debitcards are not accepted).

Teachers complete the work, make a copy for their own files, then submit to their district Alternate Assessment (AA) Mentor for approval of completed work and signature.1) The checklist (attached) indicating the work you completed and option chosen, 2) along with all computer-generated certificates of completion for the online modules. Send this packet to the AA program manager with your email address.

The AA Program Manager will review your work and email you a Certificate of Completion which you must retain for your records to send to Teacher Certification for re-licensure.

Information for re-licensure with EED Teacher Certification. You have two choices:

  • Choice 1–Mail the Certificate of Completion to Teacher Certification with $50.00 (1 CEU). Teacher Certification will scan this into your records.
  • Choice 2–Retain the Certificate of Completion in your records and present to Teacher Certification with all of your other credits/transcripts at time of re-licensure.

Terminology

Facilitated means that aneducatoris workingwithamentorina groupsetting,but completes the required quizzes withan80% pass score.

Self-directedmeansthat aneducatoris working on theirowntaking modules and completingthe quizzes with an 80% pass score.

DynamicLearningMaps (DLM)is the contractor providingEnglishlanguage artsandmathassessments forstudents with significantcognitive disabilities.

DillardResearch Associates (DRA)is the contractor providing science assessmentsfor students withsignificantcognitive disabilities.

Option 2 – If you are a teacher who will be administering the new ELA and Math assessments to a student, you may count those test administrations for 3-1/2 hours towards the required 15 hours. Your work looks like this: Required Test Administration modules (8 hours) plus Professional Development online modules (3-1/2 hours) plus Applied Training (test administration) for 3-1/2 hours. Your mentor must verify that you administered these two assessments by signing the form.
