Instructions for learners:

This document provides instruction for answering questions and collecting evidence that will be used as a formal assessment of your competence against BSB51915Diploma of Leadership and Management.

This is to be completed as an individual and hence group work is not appropriate or permitted. The rules of plagiarism as specified in your student guide apply to this assessment and will be enforced where plagiarism is suspected.

In order to be deemed competent in this assessment you must:

  1. Answer all questions fully, following both the response length and key considerations.
  2. Provide electronic copies of the evidence listed in the evidence section

Part 1- Questions

1.a. List the values of your organisation and then describe what

they mean?

b. Explain why the values are important to your organisation.

Key considerations:
In answering this question you should refer to your organisation’s values statement if it exists.
If your organisation does not have a values statement that exists, you should consult with the key senior leaders in the organisation. Failing that a key representative from HR might be appropriate.
Once you have ascertained what the organisation’s values are you should describe them below in your own words.
Explain why the values are important to your organisation.

2.a. Describe the expected behaviours within your organisation?

b. Explain why the behaviours are important to your

organisation.

Answer length: One paragraph minimum. One sentence will not be acceptable.
Key considerations:
In answering this question you should refer to your organisation’s statement of behaviours (it might be combined into a values and behaviours statement).
If your organisation does not have a behaviours statement that exists, you should consult with the key senior leaders in the organisation. Failing that a key representative from HR might be appropriate.
Once you have ascertained what the organisation’s expected behaviours are you should describe them below in your own words.
Explain why these behaviours are important to your organisation.

3.How do you model the organisation’s values and behaviours in your role?

Answer length:One paragraph minimum. One sentence will not be acceptable.
Key considerations:
In answering this question you should refer to your organisation’s values and behaviours that you have described in the previous two questions.
You should then provide an explanation of how you reflect these values and behaviours in your actions in your daily work life.

4.How do you identify and then manage your own emotional state in the workplace?

Answer length:One paragraph minimum. One sentence will not be acceptable.
Key considerations:
In answering this question you need to explain firstly how you identify the emotions you are feeling and then put a name to them.
You then need to explain how you manage these emotions to ensure you remain professional at all times.

5.Provide a specific workplace example of what you did to keep your emotions under control when you felt your emotions being triggered.

Answer length: One paragraph minimum. One sentence will not be acceptable.
Key considerations:
In answering this question you should refer to your response to Question 4.
You then need to provide a specific example that outlines what you did to keep your emotions under control when you could feel your emotions being triggered.

6.Provide one specific workplace example of when you received negative feedback and the action you took to ensure future improvement.

Answer length:One paragraph minimum. One sentence will not be acceptable.
Key considerations:
In answering this question you need to provide an example of when you have received negative feedback.
Negative feedback includes feedback that is given to correct poor performance or poor behaviour. This may result due to a number of reasons, for example not meeting KPIs or objectives, not managing the performance of a team member correctly or not completing a safety audit.
Explain how this made you feel and initially react.
Then explain how you managed these feelings and emotions to move forward.
Give details of the actions you took to ensure you improved in the area outlined in the feedback.

7.a. Provide an overview of what emotional intelligence is.

Key considerations:
In answering this question you need to provide an overview of what emotional intelligence is.
You then need to explain the various methods you use to assist your team members to develop their emotional intelligence.
Make sure you specifically explain how you would use these methods.

8.a. How do you assist others to understand the effect of their

behaviour and emotions on others?

Key considerations:
In answering this question you need to provide an overview of how you observe and interpret the effects that emotional responses and behaviours have on others.
You then need to explain how you would assist the members of your team to see the emotions and behaviours that they display.
Following this you need to explain how you would assist the members of your team to understand the effects that these emotions and behaviours have on others.
You then need to provide a specific example of when you have done this in the workplace.

9.a. How do you recognise and assess the emotional cues of team

members and then respond to their emotional states?

Answer length: Two paragraphs minimum. One or two sentences will not be acceptable.
Key considerations:
In answering this question you need to provide an overview of how you recognise, understand and then assess the emotions that your team members demonstrate in different situations.
Explain how you respond to their emotional responses in a professional manner.
Provide a specific example of when you have done this in the workplace.
Make sure you include an explanation of the result.
