‘Dice Differences’ for simulation

1.  In pairs, decide who will be ‘even’ and who will be ‘odd’

2.  Take 3 counters each and place them on your letter

3.  Roll a die each and the person with a higher number can go first

4.  Roll two dice at once and calculate the difference

(larger number – smaller number)

5.  If the value you get from the difference of two dice is one of the numbers above your letter, you may place your counter on that value, away from your letter.

6.  The first person to place all their 3 counters from their letters to the numbers win the game!

Tasks/Questions to consider after the game

·  Is this game fair? Give reasons for your answer

·  If you play the game lots of times, how will you record the results?

·  Simulate the game and repeat the simulation for a sample of at least 50 to find out the experimental probability of winning.

·  Can you come up with any methods to win the game? Or can you improve the game?
