Instructions for Creating a Deer Web Page

Create the Page Header.

  1. Click on the Style box (normal) on formatting toolbar.
  2. Choose Heading 1.
  3. Click on the Align Center button.
  4. Type The White-tailed Deer
  5. Go to the Insert menu and select break, normal line. This prevents a large blank space between the lines of type.
  6. Type your first and last name and press Return.
  7. Click on the Align Left button.

Insert a Horizontal Line to separate areas of information.

  1. Go to the insert menu and select Horizontal line.

Change the Background color

  1. Click on format menu at the top of the screen.
  2. Click on background
  3. Choose more colors from the color choice list
  4. Select an orange color.
  5. Click OK.

Save your Web page.

1. Click on File at the top.

  1. Click on Save As from the List.
  2. Save your Web page as deer_page in your user folder.
  3. Click on the Save button or press Return.

Remember when working with computers, it is a smart idea to save your work early and save it often so that you don’t lose what you have already done.

Enter Text.

  1. Press Return once.
  2. Enter the first paragraph given in the sample page allowing the paragraph to wordwrap as you key in the information
  3. Press Return after you have typed in the paragraph.

Insert a picture, format it, and align it to the left.

  1. Go the insert menu, select, picture from file.
  2. Find the picture BUCKPOND.JPG in the business education folder on the server. Choose the image from the web page graphic folder.
  3. Click on the picture name and choose insert.
  4. Double-click on the picture after it has been put onto your page.
  5. Specific size box add checkmark
  6. Keep aspect ratio remove checkmark.
  7. In the Width box, Type 150.
  8. In the Height box, Type 225.
  9. In the Alignment box (pop down menu), select Left.
  10. Click ok when done.
  11. Click the mouse to the right of the new picture.

Save

Insert a Horizontal Line.

Create a Bulleted List.

  1. Press Return once.
  2. Click on the Increase Indent button once.
  3. Click on the Bold button.
  4. Type Other Deer Species.
  5. Return once.
  6. Click on the Bold button to take it off.
  7. Click on the Insert Bulleted List button.
  8. Click on the Increase Indent button at least once.
  9. Type Mule Deer Press Return.
  10. Type Axis Deer Press Return.
  11. Type Red Deer Press Return.
  12. Type Fallow Deer Press Return.
  13. Type Sika Deer Press Return.
  14. Type Elk Press Return.
  15. Type Barasingha Press Return.
  16. Click on the bulleted list icon to turn off.

Save

Copy a picture from the Internet to your folder.

  1. Preview in Browser using the icon on the standard toolbar.
  2. Look to see how the page is coming along.
  3. Go to the web site:
  4. Move the mouse to the picture of the fawn.
  5. Click and hold the mouse button on the picture. A list of options will appear.
  6. Keep holding down the mouse button and choose copy
  7. Return to your deer page.

Insert a picture and align it to the right.

  1. Make sure your cursor is below the bulleted list
  2. Edit menu and select Paste.
  3. Double-click on the picture after it has been put onto your page.
  4. In the Alignment box, select Right.
  5. Click ok.
  6. Click the Mouse to the Left of the Fawn picture.

Save

Insert a Horizontal Line.

Create a Hypertext Link with a picture to another web site.

1. Press Return twice.

  1. Insert picture from clipart. Search for deer. Insert the buck picture, which is located near the deer crossing sign. See your handout of web page for help.
  2. Double click on the picture and resize to 125 for both the width and height.
  3. Click once on the deer picture.
  4. At the picture toolbar, click on the transparent tool.
  5. Point the tool to the white area around the deer and click once.
  6. The white should be gone.
  7. Click to the left of the picture. Grabber boxes will be gone.
  8. Click on the Increase Indent button 2 Times.
  9. Click your cursor to the right of the picture.
  1. Press Return twice.
  2. Click on the Decrease Indent button 1 time.
  3. Type Click on the buck to learn more on white-tailed deer.
  4. Using the Mouse, select the deer picture you inserted from clipart.
  5. Click on the Hyperlink button
  6. In the URL Location box enter the following web address:
  7. Click ok, the picture will have become a hypertext link.
  8. Using the Mouse, highlight the words white-tailed deer in the sentence you typed in step 12 above.
  9. Click on the Hyperlink button.
  10. Click and hold down the Arrow Button to the right of the address box.
  11. Highlight the address that you just typed in for the picture.
  12. Click ok.

Save

Giving Credit

  1. Return twice below the last sentence with the link.
  2. Click the right alignment button on the toolbar.
  3. Enter the following: Created for Riverside Middle School by (your name) on go to insert date and time and select the date.
  4. Click ok.

Change the Title of Your Web Page

  1. Right click on the page
  2. Choose page properties.
  3. In the Title Box enter: White-Tailed Deer
  4. Click OK.

Save Your Web Page!

Print your Web Page

  1. File, page set up, landscape
  2. File, print
  3. Turn in.
