Prerequisite: ENG 111

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this course, students will be able to

l. organize ideas and express them clearly and logically in complex forms of composition.

2. use various rhetorical modes-cause and effect analysis and comparison and contrast--to achieve writing objectives.

3. express themselves with minimal violations of conventions of grammar, punctuation, idiom and syntax.

4. gather information from multiple sources using techniques of research, effectively integrate the information into a composition, and document the source material according to established conventions.

5. demonstrate an understanding of the play and the novel as distinct literary genres.

6. correlate the relation of plays and novels to their intellectual, social, and cultural backgrounds;

7. analyze plays, novels, and nonfiction prose and evaluate the effectiveness of such elements as setting, characterization, theme and plot.

8. assess how different texts and genres address a shared theme.

9. (for computer-assisted sections) demonstrate competency in basic computing and information 10. technology skills;

11. (for computer-assisted sections) use the computer to solve problems and produce material appropriate to the work of this course.
