TEXAS SCHOOL FOR THE BLIND AND VISUALLY IMPAIRED

APPLICATION INFORMATION & INSTRUCTIONS

The Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired (TSBVI) is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE). Reasonable accommodations will be made for persons with disabilities during the application process or at the time of employment if requested.

PLEASE READ BEFORE COMPLETING THE APPLICATION

  • Applications are only accepted in response to a current and specific posted position. The exception to this is for high-demand, low-supply positions, such as Nurse or Teacher with V.I. Certification, for which we accept applications at all times. Otherwise, we do not accept applications to be placed "on file."
  • Employment applications must be filled out completely and signed.
  • Resumes are not accepted in lieu of an application but may be included. If you need additional space to adequately describe your employment history, you may use an employment history continuation sheet (available upon request in the Human Resources Office) or attach a typed employment history providing the same information in the same format as the application form.
  • Applicants must demonstrate in the application how they meet the qualifications stated in the job description. Applications will not be accepted if you do not meet the minimum qualifications. The hiring supervisor will review the application for evidence of the required and desired qualifications listed on the job description. All education, special skills, paid and volunteer work experience should be clearly written in detail on the application.
  • Since the State of TX Employment Application is not customized for our agency, we would like to call your attention to one item in particular. When the application asks you to list your "Special Skills," it gives examples concerning office machines and computers. We encourage you to also indicate the skills or experiences you have had as they relate to working with individuals with visual impairments.
  • In accordance with the provisions of Senate Bill 9 of the 80th Legislature, all individuals who are offered employment on or after January 1, 2008 will undergo a national criminal history information check based on fingerprints submitted to the Department of Public Safety. TSBVI will pay for this process, and persons who are offered employment but do not complete the process or do not have an acceptable criminal history will not be employed or will be discharged if they have begun working.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE APPLICATION PROCESS

  • Not all applicants are interviewed. Some supervisors prefer to interview immediately while others prefer waiting until the deadline when all applications have been received. If selected for an interview, you will be contacted directly by the hiring supervisor. Therefore, it is important that the Human Resources Office has your correct telephone number.
  • You are welcome to call us to check the status of the position, but, once the applications leave the Human Resources Department, it is up to the supervisor to handle the interview and selection process.
  • The departments are not set up to handle a large volume of outside inquiries, so we hope you will help them do their jobs by directing your questions to the Human Resources Office. Please do NOT attempt to contact the departments unless directed to do so by a supervisor.
  • All new employees, including Substitutes, will be required to attend a two-day New Employee Orientation, sometimes scheduled the first Monday and Tuesday of each month, before they may begin working.

The HR Office is open from 8:00 a.m. - Noon & 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Applications may be returned in person, e-mailed (), faxed or by regular postal mail and must be received in our HR Office by 5:00 p.m. on the closing date.
