July 29, 2009

1. Call to Order: The meeting was called to order by B. Kocher at 8:30 a.m.
2. Construction Update: Mike Collins provided a Capital Outlay/construction update. The group suggested that an update be provided to faculty during Seminar Days.
3. Minutes of July 15, 2009: The minutes of July 15, 2009 were approved as submitted.
4. Cabinet Update – D. Bertch and B. Kocher provided a general update from the July 28, 2009 Cabinet meeting. Minutes will be forthcoming once approved.
· Ken Colby has accepted the Director of Public Safety position.
· The decision has been made to close the Texas Township Campus, Anna Whitten Hall, the Center for New Media and the Groves Campus on December 28, 29 & 30 to allowthe IT staffto upgrade Banner from Version 7 to Version 8.
· Jim Dykema has announced his retirement.
5. Reality Check
· It appears that permanent budget changes submitted during the 2008/2009 budget cycle are not reflected in the 2009/2010 budget. J. Taylor will meet with J. Otten to get clarification. Also, it appears that a “hard” encumbrance system for part-time faculty contracts is not reflected in the 2009/2010 budget.

· Kudos! to Carol Orr for her support.
7. Travel/Professional Development: Briefly discussed Fast Track funding. Fast Track funds must be approved before going to Cabinet. Travel that has received Fast Track funding is still subject to denial.
8. Other
· Volunteers are needed for the calling campaign which will run Monday, August 3, 2009 to Friday, August 7, 2009.
· Heard that Sophie Rubin has accepted the Psychology adjunct position. Interviews for the open Chemistry positions will begin next week.
· The Dental Hygiene faculty opening will be filled by part-time faculty.
· A presentation is being planned for Constitution Day, September 17, 2009 in the Commons. More information to come.
· The Moodle upgrade is scheduled for August 13, 2009 beginning at 8:30 pm. Gail will request that an email be sent to notify faculty.
· D. Bertch noted that the Winter 2010 schedule will have a new look and reviewed the changes.
· Parking will not be validated for staff when attending meetings, etc. at the Arcadia Commons Campus. Staff should complete a petty cash requisition for reimbursement of parking fees. It was also mentioned that parking fees for students is under review.
· G. Chandler reported that Barbara Taraskiewicz will again be assisting with part-time faculty orientation.
· Members of the Michigan Youth Program will be touring the Technical Wing Thursday, July 30.
· D. Dawson reported on the Wind Energy Management innovative thinking grant.
· The Faculty Instructional Manual is now available on the intranet under job aids. An email will be sent to faculty providing them with a summary of the changes.
· The Department Center list is available on the “G” drive>ACAD- Services>department center list 2009.
9. Next Meeting – The next meeting will be August 12, 2009 in room 4380. The August 5, September 2, and September 9, 2009 meetings are canceled.
