Overview / In November 2007, USAID launched a new program in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), by the name of FATA Development Program–Government to Community (FDP-GC) laterally named as FATA Secretariat Special Project (FSSP) for the agencies of Mohmand, Orakzai, and Bajaur, implemented through Creative Associate an international NGO while in rest of the FR’s and agencies it was re named as Governors’ Special Program implemented through International Office for Migration, aiming to build confidence and trust between the Government of Pakistan (GOP) and FATA tribal communities involving identification and implementation of small community development and improvement projects through a consultative approach.

Project Name / FATA Infrastructure Project
Overview / A Letter of Implementation has been signed between the GOP and USAID for funding major quick impact projects in South Waziristan Agency which has now been extended to Bajaur, North Waziristan,Khyber Agency and FR tank. Under the agreement USAID will be providing a grant of US $ 268.9 million for road rehabilitation and reconstruction, water supply for human and irrigation consumption, up-gradation of Wana grid station from 66 KVA to 132 KVA, provision of standby capacity through generators and rehabilitation of damaged electricity infrastructure.

Project Name / FATA Child Health Project
Overview / Save the Children officially launched the Improved Child Health Project (ICHP) in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on December 18th, 2006, with the support of USAID. The strategic objective of the project is the increased use of key health services and behaviors to support the health and development of children in Pakistan’s Federally Administered Tribal Areas. The Improved Child Health Project in FATA/FR is implemented by Save the Children Federation, Inc. (Save the Children) in partnership and collaboration with FATA Health Directorate and local non-governmental organizations. Save the Children consults USAID on an ongoing basis to facilitate effective implementation while adhering to the guidelines in the project grant agreement.

Milestone /
  1. Renovated 126 health facilities.
  2. Established 19 child play areas, 30 ORT corners, 11 DHIS cells and 6 KIDs corners in FATA.
  3. Provided 22 solar refrigerators to 22 health facilities of FATA.
  4. Established Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) cold room for FATA EPI program at Civil Hospital Jamrud, Khyber Agency.
  5. Provided 5 mobile health units for extending health services to the communities in Bajaur, Mohmand & South Waziristan and also provided three ambulances.
  6. Equipments and furniture has been provided to 252 health facilities.
  7. Conducted 13,654 Health, Immunization and Nutrition Days (HIN Days) at health facility and community level reaching 1,736,447 children and mothers (boys; 794,216, girls; 832,253 and 109,978 mothers).
  8. Conducted 432 trainings of health care providers (HCPs) in which 7,252 HCPs were trained. (Male; 3,196, female; 4,056) and reached 267,014 people through community mobilization.
  9. Delivered five fully equipped mobile health units to the directorate of health services FATA.
  10. Provided furniture and equipment to 250 healthcare facilities.
  11. Provided three ambulances to strengthen referral mechanisms in FATA.
  12. Raised health and hygiene awareness among 217,778 people through 24,314 community sessions.

Project Name / FATA Institutional Strengthening Project
Overview / FISP is a five year USAID funded Project, and is followup for FATA Capacity Building Programme (2008 – 2010) and is aimed at assisting the FATA Secretariat (FS) & FDA management in their capacity enhancement initiatives.

  1. IT Help Desk in FS is fully operational.
  2. Connectivity to agencies and FRs via VSAT is being provided. VoIP facility is available at each Agency Head Quarter.
  3. Establishment of 200 nodes network in new FS block is carried out.
  4. IT skill development training provided to 20 FS staff.
  5. File tracking system installed at the Governor’s Secretariat and has started working
  6. Stakeholders workshop for FS was held to get wider feedback on PC-I automation.
  7. Critical HR support to FS is being provided in the form seven research officer and others
  8. Assistance provided to FS to conduct an interactive session on “Political Reforms in FATA.
  9. Legal Framework for FATA Local Governments is ready for submission to the Governor KPK. Final draft of the Model Financial Plan for the FATA local governments is also ready.

Project Name / Conflict Victims support Project- CVSP
Overview / Conflict victims support project is a three years intervention initiated by USAID at cost of 25.00 Millions US dollars aimed at providing non monetary and in kind assistance to identified conflict victims. The program is being implemented by international relief and development ( IRD) with SSG, advisors, RIPORT and Befare as implementing Partners.
