Institute of Technology Tallaght (ITT Dublin) is a leader in design and delivery of career focused courses at Higher Certificate, Honours Degree and Post Graduate level. The Institute is linked with industry and with other higher education institutions both in Ireland and in Europe and has built an active and productive research, development and consultancy programme. The Institute contributes effectively to the industrial and commercial growth of South Dublin County and has become a vital component of its infrastructure since it opened in 1992.

It is planned that three institutions in the Dublin region – Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT), Institute of Technology, Blanchardstown (ITB) and Institute of Technology, Tallaght (ITTD) will merge into a single institution to form the new Dublin Institute of Technology, prior to seeking designation as a Technological University for Dublin. .

The School of Business and Humanities is divided into four departments:

Department of Marketing and Business Computing.

The School provides a comprehensive range of full time and continuing education courses. Department of Accountancy and Professional Studies

The Department provides specialist academic programmes in accountancy on a full and part time basis. The professional programmes include courses in Personnel and Development, Logistics, Auctioneering, Supervisory Management and other areas.

Considerable emphasis is placed through each programme of study on developing computer literacy and the ability to apply information technology in solving business and commercial problems. Additionally, substantial exemptions from the following professional bodies are available to students who have successfully completed their chosen course of study in Accountancy

  • The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland
  • The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants
  • The Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
  • The Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland
  • The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators
  • The Irish Taxation Institute

Assistant Lecturer in Accounting and Finance

Candidates are required to have a relevant honours primary degree (NFQ – level 8 ) at 2nd class honours level or above, plus a minimum of three years post primary degree qualification experience combining appropriate academic and industrial / professional experience. A relevant professional qualification and / or postgraduate qualification in Accounting is desirable.

1Salary Scale (10 points)

Assistant Lecturer (New Entrant):€36,743 to €50,487 pa

Starting salary will be at the minimum point of the relevant scale only. Candidates should note that the rate of remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in accordance with Government pay policy.

Minimum Qualifications for Post

(1)Appropriate Honours Primary Degree(level 8) or equivalent 2.2

(2)3 years relevant post graduate experience

2Duties

The appointee will play an active role in the academic direction of courses including teaching, research, academic assessment and academic administration The appointee shall carry out such duties as are assigned to him/her in accordance with collective agreements arrived at from time to time and authorised by the Minister for Education and Science, including but not limited to:

  1. Teaching such assigned classes as deemed appropriate by the management of the Institute, day or evening, up to 630 hours per annum including supervision of post-graduate students where appropriate. There will be a norm of 18 class contact hours per week, which may be varied by Institute management from 16 to 20 following consultation with the Assistant Lecturer. A weighting of 1.25 will apply to hours worked after 6.00 p.m.

(These arrangements are subject to collective agreements arrived at from time to time and authorised by the Minister for Education and Science).

  1. Carrying out assessment, monitoring and evaluation of examinations

work, and providing an academic and consultative support to students in their learning activities.

  1. Providing academic input on existing and new courses and course

development.

  1. Engaging in research, consultancy and development work as

appropriate.

  1. Participating in committees appropriate to courses and meetings

convened by management.

  1. Maintaining appropriate records and making available information as

required by management.

  1. Engaging in promotion including student recruitment as appropriate.

h.Participating in the development, implementation and maintenance of

academic quality assurance arrangements.

  1. Participating in appropriate activities necessary to the development of

their department/school and of the Institute.

  1. Directing and supervising the work of Tutor/Demonstrator and taking

academic responsibility for the academic standards of this work. When

an Assistant Lecturer is supervising a Tutor/Demonstrator a reduction in teaching hours will be applied on the basis of a one hour reduction per three hours demonstration/tutorials supervised.

3Progression

Assistant Lecturers will progress to the Grade of Lecturer on completion of one year’s service after having reached the maximum of the Assistant Lecturer scale subject to a minimum of five years continuous service in the grade subject to ability, experience, academic qualifications, scholarship and demonstrated performance. Possession of an appropriate defined postgraduate qualification or equivalent shall normally be considered an essential requirement.

Pensions

The appointee will become a member of the appropriate public service pension scheme. Broadly, if the appointee:

(a) served in a public service body as a pensionable public servant on 31 December 2012, then the terms of the Education Sector Superannuation Scheme shall apply to the appointee; or

(b) first serves in a public service body as a pensionable public servant on or after 1 January 2013 or has not, prior to appointment, served in a public service body as a pensionable public servant, then the provisions of the Public Service Pensions Single Scheme will apply.

As the rules relating to membership of these schemes contain a number of exceptions, if the appointee has any queries as to which pension scheme provisions apply to them, these should be raised as soon as practicable after appointment with the HR Manager. The appointee shall be obliged to make pension contributions in accordance with the rules of the applicable scheme and the appointee shall be subject to the applicable scheme’s provisions as amended from time to time.
