Installing TraiNet Clients for a Network Install of TraiNet

After TraiNet has been successfully installed on a network drive with the database file accessed by all users across the network, the following steps should be done to install additional clients:

1.  Insert the TraiNet CD into the client computer’s CD ROM drive.

2.  Double click on the Setup icon on the CD

3.  Select the defaults during the installation and install TraiNet in the C:\TraiNet2 directory.

4.  When installation is complete, remove the CD ROM.

5.  Copy the trainet2.ini configuration file from the network TraiNet directory.

i. Go to the TraiNet directory on the network.

ii.  Find the trainet2.ini file and copy it to the C:\TraiNet2 directory on the client computer.

iii.  Overwrite the existing file on C:\TraiNet2 client computer.

iv.  Delete the dbTrainet2.mdb file in the C:\TraiNet2 directory on the client computer.

6.  Configure the ODBC connection to point to the database file on the network.

i. Open Control Panels.

ii.  Open the Administrative Tools icon.

iii.  Select Data Sources ODBC.

iv.  Select the User DSN Tab.

v.  If there is an ODBC connection for TraiNet in the User DSN section, click on it and select the <Remove> button.

vi.  Select the System DSN Tab.

vii.  Select the dbTrainet2 item in the list and select the <Configure> button.

viii.  Click on the <Select> button in the database window.

ix.  Choose the network drive and directory where the dbTrainet2 file is located. Select the dbTrainet2 file.

x.  Select <OK>

xi.  Close all windows by selecting <OK>.

7.  Create a shortcut for starting TraiNet.

i. Go to the C:\TraiNet2 directory.

ii.  Find the TraiNet2.exe file.

iii.  Create a shortcut on the PC desktop to this exe.

8.  Test TraiNet by double clicking the new shortcut on the desktop.

i. Username = TraiNet and Password = TraiNet.

ii.  You should see the same data on this PC as you see on the other PC’s.

Additional consideration for sites that use a proxy server:

-  The following line should be entered in the trainet2.ini file after the [DATA] section:

ProxyServer=”http://proxy_address:port_number”

or

ProxyServer=”http://192.168.3.95:2021” (as an example)
