Introduction and Overview

The purpose of this document is to demonstrate the standards and procedures that should be met when installing Citrix XP on a Windows 2000 Terminal Server for Newmarket International Application Serving.

The following CDs are required to complete the setup and configuration of a Windows Terminal:

Configuring MetaFrame Administrators

Specify additional administrative users by adding them through the CMC ‘Citrix Administrators’ utility. The local and domain admins should have administrative rights to the CMC. Check with local IT if applicable. /
Granular access can be given to utilities in the CMC in FR2. By default ‘Full Administration’ will be given to administrators only unless otherwise specified. /

Configuring Additional Servers to Participate in an Existing Farm

During setup of MetaFrame 1.0 FR2 when you reach the screen to create a new farm or join existing you will need to select the join existing farm if this server will participate in an already existing MetaFrame farm. /
You will need to connect the server to the server where the IMA data store resides. By default the IMA service uses port 2512 to communicate. /

Publishing Applications in MetaFrame XP

Using the ‘Applications’ utility in the CMC enter a name and description for the application that you will publish. /
Specify what to publish. If desktop is specified no command line or working directory will need to be specified. /
Browse or type in the command line for the working directory. /
Folders are useful in larger implementations for logical grouping of applications and will not be used for most deployments. Do not select boxes to add shortcuts. /
Choose 800X600, 16 colors and ‘maximize application at startup’. /
Choose to ‘start without waiting for printers’ and disable audio. /
For Newmarket applications choose to allow only one instance of the application for each user. /
Specify servers. If all will be used for load balancing purposes ‘Add all’ will add all currently installed servers in the farm. /
Specify what users to publish the application for. All applications should be published to a specific group. /
Choose finish at the ‘file type association’ screen. /

Configuring Load Balancing for NI Installations

Load Balancing is configured using the load evaluators in XP. There are two load evaluators when Xpa or Xpe is setup. They are Default and Advanced. These cannot be changed although more evaluators can be added based on specific criteria. Although this is much more robust than 1.8 the defaults will not need to be changed for most NI farms.
