Installation Instructions for the U71000 back-plane master to the SLC series PLC (Revised for firmware 2.15)
The U71000, using the set of instructions below, will be configured as follows:
Channel 1 active
Run-time parameter changing enabled
Auto addressing enabled
Extended addressing modules enabled
Module configuration via Hyperterminal
AS-i faults will not fault the processor
- Establish communications between the SLC processor and the PC using RSLinx and an RS232 cable.
- Open RSLogix and start a new project.
- Select the appropriate processor type.
- Under the “Controller” file select the “IO Configuration” option.
- Select the appropriate rack from the pull down menu under the “Racks section.”
- Select the slot number that the U71000 resides in.
- Under “Current Cards Available” select “Other.”
- Enter the value 13635 as the IO card ID number.
- Highlight the new card and select the “ADV Config” button on the bottom left.
- Insert 337 for the M0 Length and M1 Length.
[Analog signals are found in the M0 and M1 files. When using analog modules, add 4 words to the M0 and M1 files for every analog module on the system.
For example: 1 analog module = M0 and M1 lengths are set to 341
2 analog modules = M0 and M1 lengths are set to 345]
- Insert 160 for the G File Length.
- Select the “Edit G Data” button.
- Insert the decimal value 13635 into word 159.
- Insert the decimal value 263 into word 1.
14A. Optional step to activate channel 2: Insert decimal value 263 into word 80. Skip to step 15 if channel 2 is not used.
- All other words in the G-file are set to zero. The only exception is word 0 because it is reserved by the PLC.
- Select “OK”.
- Select “OK” again to return to the original “IO Configuration” screen.
- Save the new project.
This completes the setup of the U71000.
Accessing the U71000 card via Windows Hyperterminal.
- Turn the key switch on the SLC 5 processor to “PROG.”
- Establish a connection between the PC and the U71000 via an USB cable.
- Open Hyperterminal.
- Select the “Hypertrm” icon.
- Give the new connection a name and select an icon.
- Under “Connect using” select COM the COM port used by your PC for USB.
- Hit “OK”
- Under “Bits per second” select 38400.
- Under “Flow control” select None.
- The timer on the bottom left will start to count up. Hold the shift button down while hitting the 8 key to access the U71000.
- Use the menu commands to proceed with configuring the card.
