Additional Notes:

1) Board Member (Member at Large) Description: The Light House Homeless Prevention and Support Center is requesting an AAWGT member volunteer to serve as a Light House Board Member-at-Large. Board members serve two-year terms, and expectations include the following: strategic planning and promotion of the mission of the Light House; participation in annual board retreat and six regular board meetings each year; active participation in at least one board committee; attendance when possible at The Light House, Light House Bistro, and Friends of the Light House events; and assistance with cultivation and solicitation of donors. For an in-depth description of responsibilities, please contact Debbie Jones, Executive Assistant, .

2) Two Computer Towers with Enough RAM to Allow Staff to Run our Nonprofit Case Management Database Software (Amazon.com link below with a cost of $717.76 per tower) Description: Almost all of the computers used by our clients and staff are second-hand donations, and are either too out of date or do not have the necessary RAM to properly run our nonprofit case management database software, which is critical to being able to effectively diagnose and address the needs of our clients.

3) Bus Tokens to Assist our Clients with Transportation Description: Most of our clients rely on public transportation, and we always have a great need for bus tokens. There are many options for purchasing bus tokens, and they can be as small as one trip for $2, a day pass for $4, or you can even purchase annual passes which are $500. You can purchase them yourself or donate funds to The Light House and designate the donation for Bus Tokens. If purchasing them in person please mention that they are for The Light House. For more details about purchasing bus tokens, visit

4) Willow House Improvements ($15,000-20,000 in total) Description: Willow House is one of our permanent supportive housing locations and is in need of renovations in the basement to bring it up to code. Not only does Willow house 5 single women, the basement is also home to The Light House's Career Closet, where clients and residents can make appointments with volunteers to be fit for donated interview and work clothing, further helping them on their path to self-sufficiency. Unfortunately, a recent waterline break caused significant damage and flooding, making usage of the career closet difficult, and putting the structure at risk of safety issues for residents in the very near future. The cost of bringing the structural, electrical, lighting issues up to code would be in the range of $15,000 - $20,000, and The Light House is seeking full or partial funding to assist.

5) Desktop Computers Not Older than 3 Years with Current Software Update Packages for Instructional Computer Lab Description: As previously mentioned, almost all Light House computers for resident and staff use are received second-hand. The on-sight instructional computer lab is vital to teaching coursework such as soft skills, financial literacy, adult literacy and GED training, among other foundational coursework to preventing homelessness. Unfortunately, the computers in our lab our outdated, and incapable of operated basic programming such as Microsoft Office, to train our residents. We are looking for gently used desktops, not older than three years, to better instruct residents and provide experience with current technology.
