Installation Instructions for Headlamp Modulator.

The headlight modulator is designed to provide a pulsating beam to gather the attention of on-coming drivers and meets all Canadian regulatory requirements.

The circuitry drives the lamp at full power for so many milliseconds switching to 75% on a 50% duty cycle which gives approximately a half second pulse time.

There are only 3 wires to attach to the circuitry of the bike:

First, Open the headlamp shell and locate and cut the center conductor or common Ground wire for the headlight.

Be sure to cut the conductor in the center leaving enough wire at either end to attach your Modulator.

Second, Looking at the Modulator unit locate the three thicker wires, the thick Black will be soldered to the Chassis / Frame ground end of the common headlamp wire and insulated with tape or heat-shrink tube.

Third, Solder the thick Brown wire to the end of the headlamp common wire that leads to the lamp itself, insulate it and tuck aside.

Fourth, locate a source of +12 volts that is ON with the Ignition switch, generally the common wire that goes to the handlebar Hi / Low beam switch is most suitable as it will be located inside the headlamp shell and is most convenient. Solder the thick Yellow wire to it, insulate well and you are then finished with the wiring to the bike circuitry.

Lastly you need to drill a hole and locate the On /Off switch into the headlamp shell in a suitable and easy to reach position and attach both Thin wires from the modulator to it by soldering and insulating, it is unimportant which wire colors go to the switch and either way round it will work.

A suitable weatherproof switch can be provided as an optional extra or you can provide your own. The suggested switch is a Perko part number 0701DP

Which can be obtained from local marine hardware suppliers. This unit can be any weatherproof simple low voltage, low amperage On/Off push button or toggle (lever) switch.

The Modulator will work on either Hi or Low beam and must by law be switched OFF when riding at night by operating the switch you just installed.

The Modulator is built to provide a safety feature and on the remote chance the circuit should fail your headlight will be permanently in the ON condition so you can continue on your journey safely by simply switching the unit off.
