Saudek is Jeiwsh. DuringWorld War II, many of his family members died in Theresienstadt …………………..camp. Also his father Gustav was imprisoned in Theresin for three months.
Jan and his brother Karel survived children's concentration camp for youngsters. This camp was located near the present Polish – Czech……………... Fortunately, both brothers and their father survived these hard times of war and cruel concentration camps. His brother, twin Karel, is comic illustrator.
Jan's first camera was Kodak Baby Brownie. He had begun to shoot with it in 1950. Jan has ………………….also as print shop worker. Later he had begun to work with Flexaret 6x6. Important point of his life was ……………..to the United states in 1969, where he was supported in becoming professional photographer by …………..Hugh Edwards. Edwards was also director of photography at Chicago Art Institute.

Private life
Saudek, famous bohemian and lover, was born to be unpredictable and wild. His ……………….is often exhibitionistic. He was married to his first wife Maria from 1958 till 1970. She gave birth to his first two sons, Samuel and David. His love stories resulted to eight children. Usually there were no big ……………about divorces or break ups but his last break up with Sara Saudkova (she uses his surname despite the fact they were not married) is very unusual. Sara left Saudek with his own son and afterwards she gave …………..to four children. Currently he is living with his new……………, Pavla Houdkova, who gave birth to his son.
