Innovative Applied Sciences for

Protected Areas’ System Design & Management

Tuesday September 26 - Thursday September 28
at the Georgian Bay Hotel & Conference Centre, Collingwood

Register & Book Accommodations for the 2017 Annual General Meeting (AGM)
of the Centre for Applied Sciences in Ontario Protected Areas (CASIOPA)

For 20 years, CASIOPA has organized meetings for professionals and students from private, government, NGO, and academic sectors to learn about the application of science to protected areas management. We’re making our 20th anniversary something special as the AGM will reflect on the past lessons, examine the state of science in the present, and consider where the next generation of innovators will take us in the future. Participants contribute to roundtable discussions and may present their work conference style. You will have a choice of field trips to spectacular protected areas, and participate in networking opportunities. The AGM will launch at noon start on day 1, provide terrific plenaries and concurrent contributed sessions, the field trips, and then conclude mid-afternoon on day 3 with a clear vision for future research and management.

Full AGM agenda to be updated late August once the presentations are scheduled after talk submission deadline (see below). Two of our plenary speakers are Nik Lopoukhine (leader of Parks Canada, IUCN, WCPA) and Pamela Wright (UNBC expert in ecosystem science + tourism & recreation management)

The major conference session themes for the 2017 AGM are:
Protected areas systems design | Climate change | Ecological processes

Management effectiveness | Visitor use management
