Seed fund for national acoustical society formation

The International Commission for Acoustics (ICA) seeks to promote international development and collaboration in all fields of acoustics including research, development, education, and standardisation. The Commission currently (in August 2010) represents 43 national acoustical societies and has six other internationally affiliated member organisations. As the world develops, the discipline of acoustics is becoming of increasing importance, and the ICA wishes to assist in the formation of new national societies in those countries in which there is an emerging need for a professional organization in the discipline, or where an existing society has become dormant. In August 2010, the Board of the ICA elected to allocate funds to assist in the initiation of new acoustical societies. Grants of up to 250 Euros are available to assist in the initial stage of society formation and can be used, for example, to help with the costs of launching initial meetings. If good progress is demonstrated, then a further grant of 250 Euros may be allocated by the Board for follow-up activities. The application forms attached should be completed and returned to the Secretary General of the ICA. The objectives of the new society should be made clear and the rationale for its formation described clearly. Details of the budget associated with the application should be given, together with a proposal for the specific use to which ICA grant will be put. The decision to support the application will be made by the Board of the ICA on the advice of the ICA Executive (consisting of the President, Vice-President, Secretary General and Treasurer).
