Michigan Arts Education Instruction and Assessment (MAEIA)Field Test of the Model High School Arts Assessments

Agreement for Teachers and Principals

2014-15

The field test is a “trial run” of assessments that helps ensure that the assessments are valid, reliable, and fair for all students. Data from the field test will provide MAEIA with important information on how the items perform in a real-world setting--which items work well and which ones need to be improved. The field test is an evaluation of items and processes, so schools and districts will not receive individual student results. However, teachers are encouraged to self-score the items-- using the rubrics provided--and will be invited to scoring clinics (in the spring/summer of 2015) when the items are officially scored as part of the field test.

The field test window for the Model High School Arts Assessments is October, 2014 to April, 2015. Teachers who participate in the field test will select a limited number of tasks and events that are best related to their instructional plans and use them when the instruction occurs. Teachers will also be assigned one or two assessments; in this way, all of the assessments will undergo sufficient piloting and revision to be made available for future use.

A required briefing will be provided to teachers in September, 2014 to describe field test procedures and help teachers select assessments to use. * Teachers joining the field test after the September briefing window will be prepared virtually regarding the expectations for participation, procedures and selection of test items. Teachers will also receive communication from field test project staff during the school year. We have also made available a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) related to the field test.

MAEIA Project partners agree to:

  • Print and ship student and teacher assessment booklets to the teacher/school.
  • Provide a one-day Field Test briefing for participating teachers in September, 2014.
  • Provide technical assistance via phone call and email during the field test window (October, 2014 to April, 2015).
  • Protect the confidentiality of student information.

Teacheragrees to:

  • Attend a one-day briefing late September, 2014. (* See asterisk above)
  • Conduct a select number of the assessments as described in the teacher assessment booklet and not modify the assessments in any way.
  • Provide arts supplies needed to administer the assessments (paper, pencils, clay, paint, etc.)
  • Send student response booklets and digital images (photos, audio or video recording, etc.) of student work to Data Recognition Corp for scoring. Directions will be provided and shipping costs will be covered by the project.

Principal agrees to:

  • Pay for substitute teacher costs and expenses to attend a one-day field test briefing in September 2014. Dates and locations to be determined. SECHE’s available. (We anticipate some limited virtual participation options for these briefings but we encourage face-to-face participation.)

I have read this document and agree to complete the commitments as listed.
