ABOUT THE ICoN

The Information Corrlinks Newsletter was started in 2015 to provide a short summary of legal news, articles of interest, and resources on SO-related topics. The ICoN will typically contain a very brief summary of SO-related legal news, one or two main articles, and an “inmate soundoff,” allowing individuals a platform to share their personal thoughts. Sometimes, questions that I have answered will appear in the ICoN. Initially ICoN was a bimonthly newsletter, but since May 2016, we have switched to a monthly format.

Because of the Corrlinks 13,000 character limit (characters including paragraph breaks, punctuation, letters, numbers, symbols, and spacing), the ICoN is intended to be as brief as possible, and thus abbreviations are used when possible (state postal abbreviations, court abbreviations, and so on). We try to use abbreviations you will understand, such as US Sup Ct rather than SCOTUS [Supreme Court of the United States, the way the Supreme Court is often abbreviated in many Internet resources], as to be separate from the USSC, or US Sentencing Commission, or USC, US Code. If you see an unfamiliar abbreviation, feel free to ask. Another term I use often is “Registered Citizen” or “Registrant” as opposed to RSO, as well as “Anti-Registry Movement” (ARM) for the collection of organizations that are working towards reforming or repealing registration, community notification, or other laws plaguing registered citizens. Please familiarize yourself with these terms, as many anti-registry activists use these terms. But if you get confused, don’t be afraid to ask.

To contact me by regular mail, write to Once Fallen, c/o Derek Logue, 8258 Monon Ave., Apt. 3, Cincinnati, OH 45216. To sign up for the ICoN, my email address is .

ABOUT ONCE FALLEN

Derek Logue is a registered citizen (or an “RSO” but I prefer the term registered citizen) has been an activist since 2004 and began OnceFallen.com, an SO informational site, in Dec. 2007. I have a bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies (Athens State U., in Alabama, 1999). I have made a handful of media appearances over the years, including the Dr. Drew show, Russia Today, and CNN, as well as various local media outlets across the US. In addition to the media appearances, I engage in public demonstrations as well as speaking before lawmakers. I am regarded as one of the most knowledgeable individuals on the subject of “SO” Laws in the US. I treat this as a full-time job, despite not being paid or funded in any way save for a handful of donations.

My primary function is running the Once Fallen informational site, which includes collecting, organizing, and writing articles on various topics related to the registry, residency restriction laws, or other issues of primary concern of those forced to register. The ICoN is just one of the many projects that I do in an attempt to disseminate relevant information.

WHAT WE DO AND WHAT WE DO NOT DO

Because Once Fallen is a one-person operation with little to no funding, I am somewhat limited in the things that I can provide. My primary goal is helping individuals understand the complexity of ever-changing SO laws in the US. I can answer a number of questions that are directly related to such topics as registration, residency restriction laws, community notification, and the like, and may even provide some research assistance so long as the request is reasonable. Since knowing the laws of all 50 states is such a monumental task, I do not profess to know every law of every state, but I will try to provide or find for you the information that is relevant to your needs. Two popular handouts that I can provide on a limited basis based on funding availability is a 50 state residency restriction guide (provided by California RSOL) and a 50 state guide on registration relief (from the CCRC). Both of these resources can be obtained by sending me a SASE with TWO STAMPS on it. Be sure that you double check the return address, because if it is returned to me due to improper address, I will not resend it. I can provide past issues of ICoN via email upon request, and past issues can also be found on my website.

There are a number of things I DO NOT offer. I am not an attorney, and I have no information on appealing convictions, nor do I even offer an attorney referral service. There are a number of existing organizations out there (legal aid, state bar associations, etc.) that already offer these types of services and can be easily found. Second, I do not offer any kind of service outside of information directly related to SO issues, such as people finding services or looking up irrelevant information. At this time, I lack the resources to print out an entire state’s statutes; the best I will offer is a summary of the laws of each state (see above), then that resource lists the corresponding statute numbers. (This list will probably expand the more strange requests I get.)

If you have anyone “on the outside” you can print things up for you, then they can print anything on OnceFallen.com for free without even asking me for permission to reprint. I do not charge for the information listed on my website, which is free for any noncommercial use. That also includes the two guides mentioned in my previous paragraph, as well as past issues ofICoN, all free resources.

MORE RESOURCES

Once Fallen is only one of a number of organizations that provide resources. At the end of each ICoN, I provide contact information for other organizations that offer treatment related resources or are connected to the anti-registry movement. I am not affiliated with or paid to promote any other organization; I provide these resources for the benefit of anybody who needs them. Because organizations come and go, these resources may change. There is no guarantee you will receive a prompt response from such organizations, if at all. Please let me know about your experiences with these other resources so I may continue to list only the ones that are helpful to you.
