INFORMATION SHEET FOR YOUNG LIFE, WYLDLIFE & YOUNGLIVESPROJECT SERVE

THE PURPOSE: To provide everybody who wants to go to a Young Life camp a tool to raise as much money as they need. The worst reason for somebody not to experience “The Best Week of Their Life” is lack of money. Each year, many people raise enough funds for their entire trip in just one day. It’s that easy! If you personally do not need to raise any money for yourself, you can get sponsors and designate the money you earn to help out a friend, or it can go into a Camp Scholarship Fund to help other kids go to camp.

  1. GET SPONSORS:
  • The success of this event in cutting the cost of your camp trip or in raising scholarship money for others depends on how much you hustle to get sponsors.
  • Where do I get sponsors? Everywhere: parents, relatives, neighbors, your parents’ friends, teachers – you name it! Make sure they are people your family knows, do not ask strangers.
  • How much? Ask donors to donate at flat amount of $10-$50 or more. Collect payment at that time in cash or a check made out to “Young Life”. Ask if they want a receipt and, if they do, check that column on the Sponsor sheet. We will email them a receipt.
  • Procedure:
  • Register by going to our website’s Camp Fundraising page and clicking the link to register. We will email details of work times and locations for May 19 & June 9.
  • Tell people that you are raising money by helping perform 100s of hours of community service in our community for the Young Life Camp Scholarship program for the camps that you and hundreds of kids are attending this summer. There is a sample script for you attached. Your manner and especially your enthusiasm about Young Life and the camps are a BIG factor.
  • Collect the moneywhen they pledge! Have the sponsor fill out their information on your Sponsor sheet.
  1. COME AND WORK ON OUR PROJECT SERVE DAYS
  • WHAT DO I DO? Project Serve Days are May 19th 9:00am-12noon and June9th 9:00am-12noon. You can work one or both days. Everyone gathering pledges should work at least 3 hours. WHAT DO I BRING? Outdoor work: Wear grubby clothes and supportive closed-toe shoes that can get dirty, bring a pair of work/gardening gloves.

What to SAY to a potential SPONSOR?

Hi! My name is______.

I am from ______School.

Young Life students will be performing 100s of hours of community service in Clark County this spring. I will be serving at least 3 hours to earn money to go to summer camp.

You can elaborate about the camp you are planning to go to; if you’ve been before or if it is your first time going; what you are looking forward to at camp; etc.

Would you like to sponsor me? Your donation is tax deductible.

Have them fill out their name, email and phone number on your Sponsor form. Mark the correct column or write in the amount of money they donate. If they want to make sure you work the hours, promise to take a picture of yourself working at Project Serve and then text or email it to them (with a note saying “Thank You” would be great!).

Important:

Make sure and show them the SERVE card and Project Serve cover sheet so they know it is legit.
