Bachelor programmes are mainly in German*
Master programmes are mainly in English** (exception: Architecture and Civil Engineering may offer very few courses in English only – if any)
(see course catalogue)
*The undergraduate courses of the 1st and 2nd year Bachelor studies are normally taught in German at ETH Zurich, but many courses of the 3rd year are taught in English.
**Undergraduate exchange students are allowed to choose courses of Master programmes (taught in English, as a rule) if they fulfill the prerequisites.
There is an offer by the language learning center for intensive German courses and semester German courses: http://www.sprachenzentrum.uzh.ch/index_en.php
Students do not need to provide a language certificate, but we do require incoming students to have at least a B2 level in the teaching language(s), i.e. English and/or German, depending on their choice of courses. However, a C1 level is highly recommended. / Must know English and optionally Hebrew.
Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering courses are in English.
Courses in other faculties are usually in Hebrew.
There are some special courses given in English from time to time
Our website is updated periodically and should be checked from time to time regarding the English courses.
During spring semester (March-July) we have a larger variety of courses in English

Number of semester places your university would send for the academic year 2015/16? (outgoing) / up to 2 semester places
Are there any courses that will NOT be open or have certain constraints to exchange students in general? / Generally no, but please check course catalogue (http://www.courses.ethz.ch) for individual courses.
-  Some courses may be restricted in principle, e.g. in the number of participants. If this is the case, it is indicated in the course description. Students should follow the instructions in the course description and/or contact the lecturer if they wish to participate in such a course.
-  courses ending with –AAL are not open to exchange students
Management, Technology and Economics: Students applying to the department of management, technology and economics (D-MTEC) students must have completed their Bachelor degree in the field of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, information technology, natural sciences or any other equivalent field of study.
-  Mathematics: In order to be accepted as an incoming student in the department of mathematics (D-MATH) at ETH Zurich, a student must be enrolled for a degree in mathematics in her/his home university.
Mechanical Engineering: Courses offered by D-MAVT in the category Engineering Tools, Laboratory Practice, Focus Project and Workshop Floor are not allowed for incoming mobility students. In addition, all compulsory courses offered in the first two years (1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th semester) of Bachelor students of D-MAVT are closed to incoming mobility students in general. These courses are indicated as ‘First Year Examinations’ for 1st and 2nd semester courses, ‘Compulsory Courses Examination Block 1’ for 3rd semester and ‘Compulsory Courses Examination Block 2’ for 4th semester.
Humanities, Social and Political Sciences: No enrolment is possible in the department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences (D-GESS), incoming students may only take individual courses (max. 1/3 of all courses/ECTS) as electives.
Biosystems Science and Engineering: The department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) is located in Basel, a city approximately 100 km away from Zurich. Hence our services are slightly limited, housing can only be provided in Zurich. Taking courses in Zurich and Basel on the same day will be difficult, because going back and forth takes about 1.5 hours each way. This department only offers Master’s courses. Therefore only Master’s degree students may enrol. Should a student want to do a research project (in addition to coursework or exclusively) they would need to declare this from the start of their application – projects cannot be arranged in Basel later on as a work permit is required! Furthermore, research projects must be a compulsory part of the student’s study programme and the students have to apply for their visa on their own. See https://www.ethz.ch/content/dam/ethz/main/education/non-degree/mobilitaet/PDF_englisch/Specific-information-for-BSSE-students.pdf for more information on studying in D-BSSE.
Detailed information on preparing a study plan can be found at https://www.ethz.ch/en/studies/non-degree-courses/exchange-and-visiting-studies/about-the-study-programmes/preparing-a-study-plan.html / Each application will be reviewed with the academic advisor and personal responses will be sent to students
Particular restrictions / Excluded from the exchange with Technion is the ETH department of architecture (D-ARCH). / Excluded from the exchange is the Faculty of Medicine
Can undergraduate exchange students choose graduate courses? / Yes but only if they are in their senior years (3rd or 4th) of Bachelor studies and meet the prerequisites for the respective course. / In some cases it is possible
What is the minimum and maximum number of courses exchange student can take? / Students need to obtain at least 20 ECTS per semester (excluding language courses). Two thirds (for example 16 out of 24 ECTS credits) must be acquired in the department of enrolment. Exceptions are possible for interdisciplinary study programmes such as Environmental Sciences, Earth Sciences, Health Sciences and Technology, etc. and must be approved by the department.
If students plan to take more than 25 ECTS credits per semester, they should discuss this with their departmental exchange coordinator, because they may have problems with the workload. The academic pace at ETH Zurich is high and students are expected to work a lot during the semester and for the exams. Taking more than 30 ECTS per semester is not recommendable. / Exchange student should take between 3-5 academic courses which are 6-15 Technion credits
Are there any courses that charge additional tuition fees to the exchange program? / For the intensive German course before the semester a registration fee of CHF 100 applies.
Special excursions/seminar weeks might charge additional fees that will be announced. / Conversational Hebrew course

Moreover, also undergraduate exchange students are allowed to choose courses of graduate programs (taught in English, as a rule). For this reason it is necessary that the exchange students are senior year Bachelor students. Nominated students generally must have completed at least 2 years or 4 semesters of study at their home university upon starting their exchange at ETH Zurich. / Yes. Courses in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and in other faculties as well.
Is there a website that contains a course list available to exchange students? / -  Course catalogue: www.courses.ethz.ch
-  Detailed information on preparing a study plan: https://www.ethz.ch/en/studies/non-degree-courses/exchange-and-visiting-studies/about-the-study-programmes/preparing-a-study-plan.html / http://int.technion.ac.il/semester-programs/

commences. / Courses can be changed up to 2 weeks after the beginning of the semester.
Will housing be provided by the host university? / Housing is not guaranteed, but so far we have usually been able to find accommodation for all overseas exchange students who registered with our Housing Office within the set deadlines. After their acceptance, students will receive information on registering for accommodation by email. They should read this information carefully and apply online within the set deadlines. www.wohnen.ethz.ch/index_EN
