Information on the Graduate Division Tuition Waiver “Achievement Scholarships”

PLEASE READ BEFORE FILLING OUT APPLICATION

Each semester, the Department of Anthropology receives a limited amount of funds to distribute to graduate students to offset tuition expenses. These are called Achievement Scholarships, (previously named Tuition Waivers) which can be awarded to both resident and non-resident students.

The following criteria will apply:

1) Awards are based on merit, service, achievement, or reflect the University’s mission.

2) Student must be a classified graduate student in a degree program, can be resident or non-resident.

3) Student must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.5

4) Tuition, fees, books and course materials costs can be covered, HOWEVER, existing federal regulations require that international student achievement scholarships can be used ONLY for direct tuition costs.

5) NOTE: The doctoral student enrolling in (1) credit of 800 Dissertation Research MAY apply for this scholarship.

ELI courses and undergraduate deficiencies are considered degree-related and may be covered by the tuition waiver. Students enrolled for thesis (700) are eligible only if the entire 700 credit load is required for the degree. You will have to reapply each semester, but there is no limit to how many semesters you can receive the scholarship, as long as you remain eligible.

If you are awarded an Achievement Scholarship, the Department will decide exact dollar amounts to award after estimating your tuition cost (based on whether you are paying resident or non-resident tuition and how many credits you are enrolling in for the semester). You may receive a partial tuition waiver. The award total will appear in your Financial Aid account on MYUH by August (for the Fall semester) or December (for the Spring semester). Failing to pay the remainder of your tuition by the payment deadline will result in cancellation of registration.

To apply for the tuition waiver scholarships, fill in Part I of the form below and attach your CV as instructed. PLEASE LIST ALL OTHER SOURCES OF FUNDING AND AMOUNT, IF APPLICABLE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE APPLIED FOR FLAS (Foreign Language and Area Studies) OR EWC Scholarship.
