SCENARIO 1

Start by 8:30 and call some time around 10:30 if all of the major objectives are met and only minor distance is left to get litter subject back to the road.

Main objectives: 1) secure and protect both subjects to prevent further harm, 2) treat medical issues in the field, 3) move Anne on foot under her own power to the road, 4) move Drew by litter to the road, and 5) maintain rescuer safety at all times

Minor objectives: 1) use appropriate medical techniques and equipment, 2) extract the subjects in a timely manner, 3) explore options to extricate Drew and Anne to choose most efficient techniques

Main Personnel Roles: IC is Jason, Hasty Team Medical/Rescuer 1 is Tim, Hasty Team Medical/Rescuer 2 is Melissa, Litter Attendant is Ellen, Upper Evaluator is Todd, Lower Evaluator is Jerry.

Information Given By Reporting Party (Todd)

Two subjects, male Drew, early 30s and female Ann, late 20s. They were visiting Marys Peak Saturday morning and on the drive up, saw a black bear on the west side of the road near the upper snow gate.

They stopped and "chased" the bear into the woods downhill of the road. It was fairly foggy at the time. Drew did not notice a small cliff band and fell over the edge, landing on a ledge part way down. Anne saw Drew fall and was able to stop. Anne went back to the road and spotted a bystander (male, Todd, late20s) and told him what happened and asked the bystander to call 911. The reporting party, Todd, stayed on the road to meet rescuers.

What The Rescuers Learn When They Get On Site/ Talk To The Subjects

After the call, Anne attempted to reach Drew, but got stuck on the cliff face and is now unwilling to move.

Neither of the subjects have any equipment with them and they are lightly dressed for the weather conditions.

Both of the subjects are in somewhat difficult to reach spots that do not have immediately obvious best routes out.

Medical Information Given By Subjects If Asked Or After Examination

Drew did not loose consciousness and does not have any neck or head pain and no other neurological deficits. His right tibia/fibula is obviously broken, but it is not a compound fracture. He is also at the mild stage of hypothermia and shock.

Anne is not injured, but is in psychological shock, had mild hypothermia, and is not willing to move. Unless warmed (and splinted for Drew), both decline from complications of hypothermia and/or shock. Unless Ann is rapidly secured and removed for the cliff, she becomes more emotional and irrational.

SCENARIO 2

Start by 11:00 and call some time around 1:00 if all of the major objectives are met and only minor distance is left to get litter subject back to the road.

Main Personnel Roles: IC is Chris, Hasty Team Medical/Rescuer 1 is Ellen, Hasty Team Medical/Rescuer 2 is Tim, Litter Attendant is Melissa, Upper Evaluator is Jerry, Lower Evaluator is Todd.

Information Given By Reporting Party (Jerry)

Two subjects, male Drew, early 30s and female Anne, late 20s.

They were mushroom hunting on Friday on the west side of Marys Peak near the upper snow gate and on the down hill side of the road. They were reported missing at 10AM on Saturday after Anne missed a breakfast appointment. The reporting party, male Jerry, late 40s, knows the area they were at and will meet the rescuers at the site. The subject's car is still locked and at the pull out parking area just below the upper snow gate.

What The Rescuers Learn When They Get On Site/ Talk To The Subjects

While mushroom hunting on Friday, the subjects noticed some extremely rare and expensive mushrooms growing in cracks in a small cliff band and decided to climb the cliff band to get the mushrooms. Drew was scrambling above Anne when he slipped and fell on to Anne and they both fell to a lower ledge and ended up in a tangle together. They have been out all night and Anne is very well dressed for the conditions but Drew is not. They do not have any other gear with them.

Medical Information Given By Subjects If Asked Or After Examination

Anne has a dislocated shoulder and has mild shock and hypothermia, but can walk. Drew is not injured, but has moderate to sever hypothermia and is responsive mainly to pain, but some verbal questioning once in a while. Unless aggressively warmed, both decline from complications of hypothermia and/or shock.

Both of the subjects are in a somewhat difficult to reach spot that do not have immediately obvious best routes out.
