Training Workshop on Severe Weather Forecasting and Warning Services

INFORMATION NOTE
1. VENUE
The workshop is scheduled to be held from 14 to 25 September 2015 at a Training Room, 1st Floor, IT Center, Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) Headquarters, 4353 Sukhumvit Road, Bangna, Bangkok, 10260.
TMD will provide necessary facilities to support the success of the workshop, including internet and a number of computers. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own laptops.

3. WORKSHOP DOCUMENTS

4. VISA
Visitors entering the Kingdom of Thailand are generally required to have a valid passport and visa. All participants are recommended to contact the nearest Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate of Representative of Thailand in their respective countries and/or obtain information from http://www.mfa.or.th for visa requirements.
Please contact Ms. Phanumat Lewcharoenthrap (email: ) if any assistance in obtaining entry visa to Thailand is required. An official invitation letter can be issued by the Thai Meteorological Department for the purpose of visa application.
5. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN AIRPORT AND HOTEL
Participants will arrive at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok. Participants are required to make arrangements for their transportation between airport and hotel by their own. They are suggested to take taxi which is the most convenient means of transportation for this purpose. Taxi cost is around 250-300 Baht/one way depending on the distance and express way fee in use.
6. ACOMMODATION
Participants are suggested to stay at the following two hotels (“Viva Garden Serviced Residence Hotel” and “Convenient Park Bangkok Hotel”) which are located on Sukhumvit Road, near the BTS Sky Train stations and not far from TMD Headquarters (training venue). The suggested hotels are also not very far from the Suvarnabhumi International Airport.

TMD is pleased to assist participants to make room reservations at the above two hotels. Participants who wish to stay at the above hotels are kindly requested to complete the attached Hotel Reservation Form (Annex I) and submit to Ms. Phanumat Lewcharoentharp (email: ) on or before 15 August 2015. Participants staying at the other hotels, kindly inform the hotel’s name and address to TMD for information.
7. LOCAL TRANSPORTATION BETWEEN HOTEL AND TMD
Participants are required to make arrangements for their transportation between hotels and TMD by their own. They will be easily accessible to TMD Headquarters from their accommodation hotels by the BTS Sky Train. The BTS Sky train “Bangna Station” is located in front of TMD Headquarters. Shuttle bus and Taxi are also the other convenient means of transportation between hotels and TMD. However traffic may be terrible in the rush hours of morning and evening when people are travelling for work and returning home. Therefore participants are suggested to travel by the BTS sky train. Please see a diagram on next page showing BTS sky train route with locations of TMD Headand suggested hotels

8. FIELD TRIP/EXCURSION
Field trip/excursion for participants will be arranged by TMD. Information will be provided during the workshop.
9. WELCOME RECEPTION
All participants are invited to participate in the welcome reception hosted by TMD. Information will be provided during the workshop
10. CURRENCY EXCHANGE
Thai currency is the Baht (THB). Information on the day-to-day exchange rates can be found at http://www.bot.or.th (USD 1 @ THB 33.60, as on 5 June 2015).Foreign currency can be exchanged at the Airport and at all local banks. Hotels and stores also accept major currencies at reasonable rates of exchange.
11. ELECTRICITY
The electric current in Thailand is 220 volt AC (50 cycles) throughout the country. Many different types of plugs and sockets are in use. Participants with electric appliances should carry a plug adapter kit.
12. CLIMATE
During September, weather in Bangkok is normally hot and humid and the Southwest monsoon brings much of rainfall. Below is normal monthly climate data for Bangkok:
