Infinity ECU is “Flawless” on Pure Performance BMW E46 M3 at NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill

Team Overcomes On-Track Collision to Fight from 5th to Runner-Up in Class

HAWTHORNE, CA—The Infinity ECU-tuned, Pure Performance BMW E46 M3 faced its share of challenges at the 2013 running of the NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill, arguably one of the largest amateur automotive endurance racing events in the U.S. The team battled from as far back as 5th place in the E0 class in the #67 E46 M3 after a mid-race collision and faulty cam angle sensor—which revealed radiator damage as it was being replaced—forced unscheduled pit stops. The team ultimately regained 26 minutes of the 46 minutes lost performing repairs to take the runner up spot in E0.

Although the new Infinity ECU has seen much early success in multiple forms of Motorsport including Global Rallycross Super Lites, Pirelli World Challenge GTS, NHRA, Formula Drift, IFO Drag Racing and Global Time Attack, this was the first time the ECU was called upon for endurance racing. “The Infinity was flawless,” stated team owner and driver Daniel Wennerberg of Pure Performance. “The performance was flawless, the diagnostics from the logs were fast, and (AEM Engineer) Beau Brown’s support was awesome. It was one area where we never had an issue. Nothing!”

“The collision was unfortunate because of how much time it set us back, but thanks to strategic pits stops, driver changes and the talents of our team we were able to get over half of that time back and finish a strong second,” continued Wennerberg.

In addition to finishing runner-up in E0, the Pure Performance M3 finished higher than all other BMWs in the race. The team’s finish is impressive considering that only roughly half the cars that enter the NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill complete the race.

Wennerberg, who owns Pure Performance, also competes in NASA ST3 and GTS4 with the M3. He was joined by Grand-Am drivers Brett Strom and Mickey Miller, both of whom have extensive nighttime driving and NASA 25 Hours racing experience/victories, BMW club racers Vic Pizzino and Ralph Warren who are both multiple-time BMW class champions in addition to wet weather driving experts, and Greg Neuwirth who has multiple years of experience and a championship in NASA H2 competition.
