Infection Prevention & Control Meeting – 12th September 2017

The minutes of the last meeting were agreed.

ACTION POINTS

1.  Legionella/Water checks -

All annual and quarterly water temperature checks are up-to-date and signed off. New water temperature recording sign-in sheets have been produced and have replaced older versions. Any discrepancies in temperature readings will continue to be brought to the attention of the Operations Manager.

2.  IPC Training –

Belinda the CCG IPC Lead (Clinical Commissioning Group Infection Prevention and Control Lead), will be conducting the 3 year annual mandatory training on 14th September 2017. Prior to this date Jane will contact Belinda regarding the surgeries record of HCAI’s and on the availability of notes on the training session. This is necessary for absent members of the team on the day.

3.  Audit on prescribing of sharps bins

Round 2 completed. Findings discussed:

Results

172 patients have sharp device on their current repeat template

69 patients have sharps bin/needle cutter on their repeat template

63 patients had both (representing 37% of all patients with sharp device on repeats)

6 patients had sharpsbin/needle cutter on current repeats but no current sharp device)

Conclusion

37% of patients who currently have a repeat prescription for a sharps device have a sharpsbin or similar sharp management system on their repeat prescription.

Patients under part hospital based care (eg diabetes) may have access to sharps bins from elsewhere

4.  Trojan Cleaners –

Neil Patterson has fed back quality concerns to Trojan and the review of the cleaning contract is on-going.

5.  Healthcare Acquired Infections -

No reported HCAI’s this quarter. It is expected that the IPC Training Day on 14th September to include discussion about HCAI’s.

6.  Renovations –

PDC and RJT rooms have been completed and a new dishwasher has been installed in the Staff Room. This renovation work has not been signed off due to a leakage resulting in damage to Dr Hayton’s room. This has stalled the commencement of work in the Staff Room.

Girton dispensary remains on the list for renovation in the near future. NP is reviewing requirements with Girton team and will make recommendations.

7.  Annual Report

The Annual Report has been completed and is available for review on the website. All Minutes and Policies are available to view.
