The Industry Sector Outreach Award honors a Workforce Development Board that has found solutions to workforce shortages in the targeted industries of nursing, advanced technology and manufacturing, aerospace and defense, energy, information and computer technology, life sciences and biotechnology, and petroleum refining and chemical products. Your nomination should detail how the Board integrated available resources into a comprehensive solution that achieved results in one or more of the targeted industries, employing innovative approaches (which may include marketing/outreach and technology innovations) to meet industry needs through recruiting, hiring, training, upgrading skills, retaining and transitioning workers, coordinating resources and engaging the community. Describe how the Board’s efforts eased worker shortages, met targeted industry workforce needs, and served the community through integrated services and collaboration with community resources, employers, job seekers, and workers.

Nomination Responses

1.Provide an overview of no more than 350 words detailing WDB efforts to meet targeted industry needs through the Texas workforce system. Identify targeted industry needs, and describe innovation, partnership, and collaboration the Board used to build capacity to meet economic and workforce objectives.(30 points)

3.What were the results? Identify the economic impact or other measurable results on the targeted industries, its workers, businesses, the local community, and the state of Texas within the past 12 months or most recent reporting period. (Examples: more workers, coordinated training, expanded opportunities, etc.) (10 points)

4.Explain how the targeted industry gained leverage, capacity, and advantage from these efforts. (10 points)

5.Identify those involved, including collaborators, both inside and beyond your workforce area. (10 points)

6.Describe the scope of this initiative, including the budget, human resource requirements, time invested, and timeframe. In terms of any or all of the elements identified above, what was the approximate cost of this endeavor? (10 points)

7.Describe innovative methods or essential ideas. (10 points)

8.Explain how others are using or might replicate these efforts. (10 points)

Nomination Summary for Conference Materials

Example: Workforce Solutions for Imaginary Area in Texas,Mystery Company ABC

Mystery Company ABC is the largest operator of blankety blank in Texas. It also directly supports workforce development through its membership on the Workforce Solutions Imaginary Board X, aligning with X’s initiative to attract, develop and retain a quality workforce for the Imaginary X area. ABC currently employs 7,500 team members in Location A and is a strong proponent of developing a highly skilled future workforce. To support the Texas workforce system’s goal of ensuring that both employers and workers have the resources and skills needed to remain competitive in the global market last year, Mystery Company ABC initiated and created the Texas Two-Step Education Alliance. This partnership resulted in the direct hiring of eight veterans.
