VNA provides counseling services and support groups tailored to the needs of adults, teens, children and family caregivers following the loss of a loved one. There is no fee for our services and you do not have to be part of the hospice program to attend, as they are open to the public.

Individual and Family Bereavement Support*:

Private Session – A support session with a bereavement specialist for assessment and direction

Examples of private sessions offered:

Precious Dreams – Individualized support after miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death

Parent to Parent – Individualized support for those who have lost a child of any age

Through Their Eyes – Individualized support for the developmentally challenged and their caregivers

Caring Well – Individualized session to preserve, kindle and liberate the spirit of a caregiver

Grieving Now – Individualized session for individuals or families facing an impending loss

Adult Grief Support Groups:

Weathering Grief – Monthly support group meetings for those whose loss is between one month to two years ago. Registration is not required.

Transitions Social – Ongoing opportunities for social outings and networking for widows and widowers coordinated by a network of peers throughout the year.

OASIS (Overdose and Suicide Integrated Support)* - Support for those who have lost a loved one to overdose and/or suicide. Registration is recommended, but not required.

Kittanning 2nd Tuesday of the month 7-8:30 p.m. ACMH Hospital One Nolte Drive, Kittanning, PA 16201

Young Widow’s Group – Support for those under 65 who have experienced the loss of their significant other.

Men’s Morning – Support for men who have lost a wife or partner, whose loss occurred at least six months ago. Registration is recommended before first time attendance.

Bereavement Services for Children and Teens*:

Private Sessions with Bereavement Specialist – Individualized support for children of any age facing a loss.

Forever Friends or Changing Classrooms – session for classroom session grades K-6 or group of high school students who have lost a classmate, close friend or teacher.

Grief Resources:

The Bob Schmieler Memorial Library – Review or borrow books and material for all ages on coping with serious illness, dying, caregiving, grief after a specific loss and loss in general.

*For those who may need long term counseling support, referrals will be made to community counseling services. Must call ahead to schedule an appointment.
