Project Choices:

1)  Create four political cartoons that capture source(s) of controversy, irony, conflict, or a cause that is relevant in your work. These must be authentic and professional looking so study samples of political cartoons and understand their purpose to get this right. You will present this to the class.

2)  Create a product or an invention inspired by your work of literature. Identify something in the actual work or something that the character would probably wish he/she had. Create the actual product and sell it in a print or commercial ad campaign of professional quality. Keep the toe appropriate for your memoir. This is persuasion. Study successful campaigns to get this right. You will present your creation to the class as the creator and the promoter.

3)  Create an authentic Fodors, Frommer’s, Culture Shock, Idiot’s Guide, or Lonely Planet- style travel story, chapter, or booklet of 3-5 print or web pages on a significant location from a classic work of literature. You may write the story from your perspective as a literary traveler or from the perspective of one of the characters in the work. Include places to stay, places to visit, what to eat, maps, visuals, tips, caveats, sensory experiences…Please study these beloved travelers’ companions to get this right. I mean follow the format of the books exactly, please!!!!You will present your creation to the class.

4)  Create a public service announcement for an conflict or issue of central concern in your memoir. You may create the campaign as the writer or someone who has a vested interest in the concern facing the author. Who is the target audience? Think about what the is trying to persuade your audience to do or how to act. What is the call to action? What is the best way to sway this audience? What are their susceptibilities? Vulnerabilities? How will they (and you as the creator) benefit? Study public service announcements to get this just right. You will be presenting these to the class.
